New Series & Movies Released On Amazon, Hotstar, Netflix This Weekend (3rd June)

1. 9 Hours

(Streaming on Disney+ Hotstar | Release date: 2 June)

9 Hours is about three prisoners, who escape from jail to rob three branches of the same bank. But when a simple robbery turns into a hostage situation that no one planned for, the secrets start to pile out. A short-tempered police officer Pratap (Taraka Ratna) happens to be nearby as the situation escalates. What follows is the chaos that no one could’ve predicted. The web series takes you through a span of the titular nine hours, weaving a tightly wound narrative that keeps you engaged for the most part.

2. Aashram 3

(Streaming on MX Player | Release date: 3 June)

One of the most successful crime thrillers in recent times, this Bobby Deol-starrer is about a godman and the inner workings of a great con he pulls off. The series captures how this godman blindsides his followers to gain political power and becomes unreachable. The series has interesting side plots running to keep you entertained throughout the three seasons. Directed by very talented Prakash Jha, the third season also stars Esha Gupta, Aaditi Pohankar, Darshan Kumar, and Chandan Roy Sanyal.

3. The Boys Season 3

Almost after the two-year gap, the most scandalous and unconventional superhero series is back on Amazon Prime Video. ‘The Boys’ is a fun and irreverent take on what happens when superheroes who are as popular as celebrities, as influential as politicians, and as revered as gods, abuse their superpowers rather than use them for good. In case you want to watch the series, the new episode will be dropped every Friday.

4. Umbrella Academy Season 3

The series revolves around a dysfunctional family of adopted sibling superheroes who reunite to solve the mystery of their father’s death and the threat of an imminent apocalypse. The first two seasons received a lot of love from the fan. We are hoping this season is as badass as the earlier seasons.

5. Borgen Season 3

A former Prime Minister of Denmark, Birgitte Nyborg now takes up the reins as the country’s Minister for Foreign Affairs. Chaos soon follows her new appointment when a drilling company discovers oil in Greenland, kick-starting an international power grab. Noticing that her superiors have a not-so-sincere climate politics agenda, she considers adapting to it. The political drama focuses on her morality as it fluctuates between changing her stance on oil or resigning.

1. Samrat Prithviraj

(Theatres | 3 June)

Starring Akshay Kumar, former Miss World Manushi Chhillar, Sanjay Dutt, and Sonu Sood, the movie is based on medieval poet Chand Bardai’s epic poem Prithviraj Raso. While Akshay is playing the role of Prithviraj Chauhan, Manushi Chillar is in the role of his wife Sanyogita. Manav Vij plays Muhammad of Ghori.

2. Vikram

(Theatres | 3 June)

Starring Kamal Haasan, Vijay Sethupathi, and Fahaad Faasil, the movie is about two brothers, one a gangster and the other a politician. This much-awaited Tamil thriller will release in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam, and Kannada.

3. Major

(Theatres | 3 June)

Major is another much-awaited South Indian movie. The movie is based on the real-life of Army hero Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan, who was killed during the attacks on Mumbai’s Taj Palace Hotel. Starring Adivi Sesh, Sobhita Dhulipala, and Prakash Raj, the movie will release in Hindi and Telugu.
