‘You Are Polluting Young Minds’: Supreme Court Slams Ekta Kapoor For Objectionable Content On OTT

Ekta Kapoor had requested Supreme Court for protection from arrest warrants against her over her Alt Balaji web series XXX. The court warned her to stop filing such petitions.

Recently, Ekta Kapoor moved to the Supreme court to seek protection from arrest warrants against her over her Alt Balaji web series XXX. But, her move backfired as Supreme Court came down heavily on her. The Supreme Court blamed Ekta Kapoor for ‘polluting’ the minds of the young generation. The top court also warned her not to approach the court with any more pleas and ordered that a cost will be levied if she files more such petitions.

As per sources, Ekta filed the plea in the top court, challenging the arrest warrants issued against her for allegedly insulting soldiers and hurting the sentiments of their families with the ‘objectionable content’ in the web series XXX. The show was aired on the OTT platform ALTBalaji, which is owned by Ekta.

Ex-serviceman Shambhu Kumar filed the complaint against the web series XXX makers. In his complaint, he mentioned that the series’ second season had several objectionable scenes related to a soldier’s wife. Post the complaint, a trial court in Begusarai, Bihar, issued the warrant.

As per PTI, senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi appeared for Ekta and asked the court to provide her protection. He mentioned that they had granted her this kind of protection in the past as well. Her attorney also went ahead and defended Ekta’s freedom of choice. He also argued that the content in question is subscription based.

After hearing Ekta’s attorney, the bench of Justices Ajay Rastogi and C T Ravikumar criticised Ekta Kapoor. While blaming her for polluting young minds, the Supreme Court bench said, “Something has to be done. You are polluting the minds of the young generation of this country. It is available to all. OTT (Over The Top) content is available to all. What kind of choice are you providing to the people?….on the contrary you are polluting the minds of youngsters.”

Further warning Ekta said, “Every time you travel to this court….we don’t appreciate this. We will put a cost on you for filing such a petition. Mr Rohatgi please convey this to your client. Just because you can afford and hire the services of good lawyers….this court is not for those who have voices.”

The bench further added, “This court works for those who don’t have voices…if these people who have all kinds of facilities if they cannot get justice then think of the situation of this common man. We have seen the order and we have our reservations.”

For the unversed, The central idea of XXX is an erotic anthology series examining many facets of romance, lust, and love. The apex court kept the plea pending and suggested a local lawyer may be assigned to check the status of the hearing in the case in the Patna high court.
