In search of work, many people from low-income groups come to Bengaluru to give their families a better life. And, as the fast-growing city needs laborers to build apartments and complexes, often many of them take up construction work.
Among these laborers, who are parents, have no choice but to bring their kids along with them at work. They had to let them play near the site while they work. However, these worksites are neither safe nor hygienic for kids.
In order to design a safer and healthier environment for these kids, the Karnataka government has come up with a great plan.
The government is planning to turn old buses into creches for these kids so that they can play and spend time at a safer place while their parents work.
According to a report by The New Indian Express, artists will give a new look to old discarded BMTC and KSRTC buses. They will make old buses colorful and attractive for kids. These buses will also have toys and books for the children to play with.
Right now, the Labor Department has taken up the responsibility to make these creches. Once the buses are completely transformed into creches, they will be handed to NGOs who will then run them. The department is also planning to provide healthy snacks to these kids in the morning.
The plan is to place these creches near the work site so that parents can watch their children at any time.
From his MP fund, Rajya Sabha member G Chandrashekar has donated Rs 25 lakhs to this great initiative. This donation will be used to procure buses, renovate them, and later hand them over to the NGOs. The permission of procuring 100 such buses has already been given.
