How Shyamali overcame all life obstacles to become a successful long-distance runner shows what it takes to become a winner in life.

Though many may criticize their life for tough circumstances, some gather the courage to fight back and make their dream a reality. One such inspiring real hero is Shyamali, who fought her way through the difficult times to live life on her own terms.

2-years back when Shayamali returned from Thailand Cross Country, she was diagnosed with a breast tumor. At a young age of 24, this news would have broken anyone. But, Shyamali gathered all her courage and decided to fight breast cancer. While it is a disease that affects the patient both mentally and physically, this brave and courageous woman did not let it break her down.

And, two years after beating breast cancer, she has won a silver medal in TSK 25K on Sunday with the timing of 1:39:02. As per Indiatimes, while talking about her struggle Shyamali shared:

“I come from the family of farmers in Midnapore. We are not well off. My husband Santosh is my coach also and we decided to fight it together. I needed money for my treatment and so I participated in Mumbai Marathon. I was determined to make a podium finish to get the money for my treatment.”

Today she has not only overcome cancer but has also returned to running and has put up an inspiring show. Till the 17-km mark, she led the Indian women’s team, before a cramp on her right stomach slowed her down.

She puked twice during the run that allowed Kiranjeet Kaur to overtake her and win the race. While Shyamali finished six seconds behind Kiranjeet, she captured the hearts of millions through her determination and persistence.

At IFORHER, we are proud of Shayamli for fighting against her circumstances with immense courage. We wish her luck for the future endeavors and hope she will keep inspiring many of us to fight back in life.
