The popular comedy-drama series, directed by Deepak Kumar Mishra, stars Jitendra Kumar, Raghubir Yadav, Neena Gupta, Chandan Roy, Raghubir Yadav, Faisal Malik, and Sanvikaawas.

Panchayat

The plot of the series is built around the protagonist – Abhishek (played by Kumar) an engineering graduate, who joins as a Panchayat secretary in a remote village Phulera of Uttar Pradesh due to a lack of better job options.

Recently, we stumbled over a Twitter thread where someone managed to dig out an old Television show from 1989 and started drawing parallels between Panchayat and the show ‘Umeed.’

Umeed is a 1989s TV show where just like Abhishek Tripathi (Jitendra Kumar), Shah Rukh Khan is sent to a village as a banker.

In a series of tweets, fans pointed out how before Shah Rukh Khan played a character like Mohan Bhargav in Swades, and he played ‘Bank Babu’ in Umeed, released on Doordarshan.

Isn’t it a coincidence that Panchayat actor Jitendra Kumar recently shared in an interview that if Panchayat 2 had been made in the 1990s, Shah Rukh Khan would have been the ideal choice for the role of Sachiv?
