As Jacinda Ardern Is Re-elected As NZ Prime Minister, Her Inspiring Journey From DJ To Youngest Prime Minister

by Neetu Kushwah Raghav
October 17, 2020

Jacinda Ardern, New Zealand’s youngest Prime Minister ever, has won a second term in the office.

A total of 87 percent of votes were cast in the election that was marred by COVID-19. As per reports Ardern’s center-left Labour Party has won with 48.9 percent of the vote.

Termed as a ‘rockstar politician’, only at the age of 37, she has been considered in the league of politicians like Barack Obama and Justin Trudeau. She is the most admired politician in the world today.

And, here’s what makes her such a popular leader.

From being the youngest PM New Zealand has had in 150 years, to lead the country through various adversities like Coronavirus, Christchurch attack, Jacinda is definitely changing the mindset that questions the potential of women leadership.

Since her childhood, she was all about greatness and leadership. She was inspired by her aunt to enter into politics. Within a quick time, she became a prominent senior member of the Young Labour sector of the party.

But if you think that her sole interest in life was just politics, then you will be surprised that besides politics, Ardern is also a music lover. This ‘rockstar politician’ is also known to have mixed beats as a DJ. She has also performed on the stage during the Laneway Festival.

But what makes people feel that Jacinda is the leader that the world needs right now, is her ability to be progressive and to move away from the herd mentality.

While being in the office, she became the first Kiwi Prime Minister to be pregnant.

She also became the first world leader to take maternity leave to prove that women don’t need to give up on their dreams after having a child.

And, when her maternity leave was over, Ardern joined the office while her partner became a stay-at-home dad. Again another sign of a progressive mindset! When the interviewer pointed out that she’s a feminist, she said,

Oh absolutely, absolutely I am a feminist. But no, I want to put him through the pain and torture of having to agonise about that question himself, that’s letting him off the hook, absolutely not.

She has also been praised by world leaders and citizens all over the world after she banned all military-style weapons in NZ after the shooting.

In an era, when the countries are being led by the leaders who lack empathy, one person, one woman, one leader stood tall against all odds to unite us all.

When the world was shocked because of Mosque shooting in New Zealand, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern came across a big hope for humanity. It was her empathy that stopped the country from being divided in the name of religion.

In order to pay her respect for how she stood with the community after a terrorist killed 50 Muslim worshippers, the world’s tallest building, the Burj Khalifa was lit up with the picture of New Zealand PM.

New Zealand today fell silent in honour of the mosque attacks’ martyrs. Thank you PM @jacindaardern and New Zealand for your sincere empathy and support that has won the respect of 1.5 billion Muslims after the terrorist attack that shook the Muslim community around the world. pic.twitter.com/9LDvH0ybhD

While the whole world struggles with Coronavirus, New Zealand under the leadership of Prime Minister, Jacinda Ardern, is COVID-19 free. Jacinda has become a role model for the rest of the world on how the country needs to be led during a crisis.

At IFORHER, we wish more leaders will take lessons from Ardern on how to lead in a progressive, empathetic, and courageous way!
