Who is Jemimah Rodrigues?

If you follow women’s cricket, then you would definitely know who is Jemimah Rodrigues. She is one of the budding stars of the Indian Women Cricket Team, who has already stunned the world with her multiple achievements.

She scored a double century at age of 16, made international debut at 17 and was awarded Jagmohan Dalmiya Award For Best Domestic Junior Women’s Cricketer by the BCCI.

And, recently all-rounder Jemimah Rodrigues created another unique record. 

As India women defeated Sri Lanka women by 13 runs in the first T20I and took a 1-0 lead in the five-match series,

Teenager Rodrigues became the first Indian women to hit three sixes in an over of an international game.

She smashed 36 off 15 balls in whirlwind innings that saw her becoming the first Indian woman to hit three sixes in an over.

Apart from her, wicketkeeper-batswoman Taniya Bhatia (46) and skipper Harmanpreet Kaur (36) made noticeable contributions powered India to 168 for eight in 20 overs.

In reply, Sri Lanka team were bowled out for 155 in 19.3 overs.

Apart from Eshani Lokusuriyage (45) and Yasoda Mendis (32), none of the other batters could contribute much in front of great bowling attempt of Poonam Yadav (4 wkts) and Harmanpreet (2 wkts) and Radha Yadav (2 wkts)

 

But sadly many Indians were not able to witness the great performance of Indian women’s team as there is no live telecast of women’s T20 watches.

People poured messages on Twitter to show their disappointment and call out the blatant gender inequality.
