It is very common to seeĀ  VIPs inaugurating a government project, but what is uncommon is having the daughter of a labourer inaugurate it.

In a recent heart-touching incident, the South Western Railway authorities at the Bengaluru railway station received a huge applaud from the internet. Because they invited a laborer’s 10-year-old daughter to inaugurate an escalator installation project.

As per TOI, an MP was invited to inaugurate a renovated AC hall and an escalator on 9th November. But, the function was canceled due to the imposition of section 144 with regard to the Ayodhya verdict.

While the function was canceled, the MP told the authorities to make both the escalator and the waiting room should be opened to the public on the scheduled date.

This is when the railway officials came up with the fantastic idea of inviting 10-year-old Begumma to inaugurate the escalator. Begumma is the daughter of Chandbi, a laborer who worked really hard at the project site for last few months.

In addition, two senior citizens waiting at the platform inaugurated the AC waiting hall. Talking to TOI, Bengaluru divisional railway manager Ashok Kumar Verma, said:

“We saw them sitting at the platform and asked them to inaugurate the facility. They were both surprised and happy.”

At IFORHER, we are celebrating this heart-warming gesture and hope many would take inspiration from this incident to end the VIP culture in India.
