Divya Dutta’s depression struggle after losing her mother will not only inspire many to speak up about their loss but also give them the courage to fight their struggle.
Losing your parents is never easy! It is a nightmare that we wish no one has to live through but unfortunately, many of us do. It takes a lot of courage to hold the parents’ memories when you know you can’t hold their hands anymore.
While many are able to cope up with this heart-wrenching pain, there are few grieving souls who slip under depression. Though many suffer in silence, there are few who gather the courage to speak up about their struggle to inspire others.
One such soul is Divya Dutta, who recently spoke about her depression struggle after losing her mother.
Divya lost her father when she was only 7 years old. Her single mother raised her and her brother. But a few years back, Divya lost her mother as well. At that time, she didn’t have any idea about how to live without her. While sharing the details about her mother, she mentioned:
“I have spent maximum amount of time with my mother. Her life has been nothing best than a miracle. I lost my father when I was very young and she was our support… She was a very courageous woman.”
While sharing how it was hard to even imagine life without her, she mentioned:
“My day always started with ‘Good morning momma’ no matter where I was. I’ve lost my best friend. My father passed away when I was seven, mom single-handedly brought up my brother Rahul and me. She was a civil surgeon posted in rural areas. We went through some tough times but she gave us a beautiful life. She was my support and I was hers.”
Her mother underwent a bypass but developed an infection in the stitches which got bigger and more painful with each passing day. She pointed it out to the doctor but since her mother was diabetic, he told us to wait. Finally, Divya took her to a plastic surgeon who cleaned and stitched it up, but the infection remained. She developed multi-organ failure and was put on the ventilator three days before her death.

Sharing the details of those last moments, when her mother was on a ventilator after multiple organ failure, she mentioned:
“I sat by her side, looking at the monitor dip. It was like watching a movie. Suddenly, she was gone. Maybe it’s destiny but I’m disappointed with the medical practice. It’s become so commercial. It was a small infection, it could have been addressed earlier. Now, my best friend has left me forever.
Shedding some light on the importance of mental health, Divya Dutta, in an interview with ETimes, opens up about how she dealt with depression after her mother’s sad demise. While speaking about how she overcame her depression struggle, she mentioned:
“I have been through depression. I was depressed when I lost my mother. You need some strong support system around during those times to understand your silences. It gets better when you talk it out to people close to you. And there are alternatives like yoga and meditation you can opt for instead of opting for all those medications. You need to work on things and yourself. What you need is some sensitive people around you.”
