If you are one of those who spend sleepless nights regretting over the decisions that you made in the past, as per science, you are taking a step closer to death.
Yes, recent studies have proved that overthinking brings you more than just negativity. It can actually reduce your life span.
According to Fox News reports, the researchers at Harvard Medical School examined the post-death brain tissues of the people who died in their 60s and 70s and then compared those tissues with those who died at the age of over 100 years.
And the results were shocking. As per Nature, they found that the people who died at a very young age had low levels of a protein named, REST (RE-1 Silencing Transcription). It is a protein which soothes the brain’s activity.
According to another research, it has been shown that a lot of activity in the brain can lead to short life spans while lowering these activities can lead to a longer life span. The protein REST also protects people in their 60s and 70s from Alzheimer’s disease.
A study by senior author Bruce Yankner, professor of genetics at HMS and co-director of the Paul F. Glenn Center for the Biology of Aging, said that:
“An intriguing aspect of our findings is that something as transient as the activity state of neural circuits could have such far-ranging consequences for physiology and life span.”
Therefore, one should think less, in order to live longer.
So, please don’t stress on unnecessary things – be it a broken relationship, a lost job or an exam or anything else. Keep your mind and soul calm in order to live a happy, healthy and longer life.
