Bollywood’s obsession with INR 100 Crore is real. And, no wonder many movies are just created to serve the masses so that the movie can enter the 100 Crore Club. But, even though the 100 Crore mark is seen as a benchmark to declare a movie a hit, but is it really the right yardstick to measure movie success?
Due to this obsession with INR 100 Crore, many makers are not keen to make good movies; rather they just want to create movies that can enter the 100 Cr club even if that means creating movies that are regressive, sexist, or plain stupid!
On one hand, we have underrated gems like Sushant’s Sonchiriya or Irrfan’s Karwaan that couldn’t create magic at the box office. And, on the other, we have many senseless movies that managed to enter the 100 Crore Club but weren’t deserving at all. Here are some movies that managed to enter the 100 Crore club but had a really poor IMDb rating as they had weak storylines, overacting actors, or miserable direction.
1. Race 3 (2018)
Box Office Collection (India Gross): INR 213.3 Cr.
IMDb Rating: 1. 9/10
With awful performances and too-many nonsensical plot twists, Race 3 is a film that everyone should avoid at all costs. Superstar Salman Khan’s Race 3 was not only widely criticized by critics, but also ranks among the worst-rated Hindi films on IMDB. With a 1.9 IMDB rating, this movie was trash. But, do you know that movie managed to enter the 100 Crore Club in just 3 days? The gross domestic earning of the movie is estimated at around 213.3 Cr.
2. Tubelight (2017)
Box Office Collection (India Gross): INR 165 Cr.
IMDb Rating: 3. 9/10
Salman’s Tubelight is another disaster that had a weak screenplay and minimal acting. Salman Khan is perfect for his roles in movies like Dabang – where he plays the role of a toxic cop. With his limited acting skills and existing persona, casting him in a character of a challenged person was a blunder.  While many criticized the movie, it still managed to enter the 100 Crore Club and left many confused. But IMDb rating of just 3.9 supported our findings.
3. Judwaa 2 (2017)
Box Office Collection (India Gross): INR 177 Cr.
IMDb Rating: 3.6/10
As per trade analyst Taran Adarsh, Judwaa 2 pocketed Rs 134+ crore and was declared a super hit. But, no one can deny that the movie never deserved to enter the 100 crore club!
With the same lines, same songs, and even the same names as that of the original Judwaa, this remake is a movie that was never needed in the first place! Full of over-acting, vague attempts at comedy, and sexist, and misogynist dialogues, you wonder why was it even a hit. Perhaps, it’s just a reflection of what is wrong with us.
4. Grand Masti (2013)
Box Office Collection (India Gross): INR 141.67 Cr.
IMDb Rating: 4.4/10
Yes, Grand Masti entered into a 100 Crore club with its immature content and awful comedy. Starring Vivek Oberoi, Aftab Shivdasani, and Riteish Deshmukh, the movie is about three men, who are disgruntled with their married lives and decide to initiate affairs at the reunion of their college Sri Lalchand University of Technology and Science (SLUTS). Yes, this is the level of comedy we were talking about!
Add misogynistic dialogues, sexist comedy, female objectification, awful acting, and a disappointing script, and you will get Grand Masti. The entrance of Grand Masti to a 100-crore club is just a reminder of our regressive taste!
5. Gunday (2014)
Box Office Collection (India Gross): INR 109 Cr.  Â
IMDb Rating: 2.6/10
Gunday is an ideal example of how even a stellar star cast can’t save a badly written movie. Yes, that’s the reason why Ranveer Singh, Arjun Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra, and Irrfan Khan could do nothing to lift the quality of the film set in the aftermath of the 1971 Bangladesh War.
The movie revolves around two outlaws, who fall in love with a cabaret dancer, who is an undercover police officer trying to arrest them. With an IMDb rating of 2.6, this movie entering the 100 Crore club is a real disappointment
6. Son of Sardaar (2012)
Box Office Collection (India Gross): INR 145 Cr.
IMDb Rating: 4.1/10
With an IMDb rating of 4.1, this movie sets a new benchmark for awful films. With a weak plot and terrible cast and with a horrible song like “Po Po Po Po”, this one earned Rs 105 crore at the box office.
7. Dabangg 2 (2012)
Box Office Collection (India Gross): INR 215 Cr.
IMDb Rating: 4.8/10
Dabangg sequel definitely disappointed many. With no storyline and senseless action, the movie still managed to make over 200 cr. at the box-office. Just another reminder of why Bollywood doesn’t care about the quality of the content it generates!
8. Housefull 3
Box Office Collection (India Gross): INR 151 Cr
 IMDb Rating: 4. 9/10
How this made it to the Rs 100 crore club is a mystery for the ages. With the female leads named Ganga, Jamuna, and Saraswati, you can imagine what the rest of the film is like. Starring Akshay Kumar, Abhishek Bachchan, Riteish Deshmukh, Jacqueline Fernandez, Nargis Fakhri, and Lisa Haydon in the lead roles, the film is full of bad and predictable puns that are hugely offensive to disabled people or women. How this became a mega-hit truly baffles us.
