3. Monsoon Wedding

4. Matrubhoomi: A Nation Without Women
This 2003 tragic movie is not for the faint-hearted. This A-rated movie addresses the issue of gender imbalance in a fictional future. The movie captures the story of a woman, who is forced to marry 5 brothers due to the lack of women in the village. You can watch it on Zee5.
5. Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd.
This 2007-movie captures the stories of six very different couples on their honeymoon. If you haven’t watched it yet, this one should definitely be on your must-watch movie list.
6. Bandit Queen
This 1994 movie is a biographical film based on the life of Phoolan Devi. Directed by Shekhar Kapur, this movie is one of the finest, yet gruesome films ever made. You can watch it on Prime.
7. Hey Ram
Hey Ram is a 2000 Indian historical crime drama film written, directed and produced by Kamal Haasan, who also acted as the protagonist. It is an alternate history film that depicts India’s Partition and the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi by Nathuram Godse. This film stars Kamal Haasan, Vasundhara Das, Rani Mukerji and Shah Rukh Khan in lead roles.
8. Chameli
Directed by Sudhir Mishra, this movie follows the events of a night as an investment banker befriends a prostitute. This 2004 movie stars Kareena Kapoor and Rahul Bose.
9. Astitva
Shedding light on taboo topics like male chauvinism, extramarital affairs, and spousal abuse, this 2000-movie is a must-watch. Directed by Mahesh Manjrekar, this movie stars Tabu, Sachin Khedekar and Mohnish Bahl in lead roles. You can watch it on JioCinema.
10. Maachis
Starring Chandrachur Singh, Om Puri, Tabu, and Jimmy Sheirgill in the lead roles, this 1996 period political thriller is based on the rise of the Sikh insurgency in Punjab in the 1980s.
11. Being Cyrus
One of the most unique movies, this 2005 psychological drama stars Saif Ali Khan, Naseeruddin Shah, Dimple Kapadia, Boman Irani and Simone Singh in lead roles. Cyrus Mistry is coaxed by Katy Dinshaw to murder her father-in-law Fardoonjee so that she can spend time with her brother-in-law Farrokh. Little does she know that Cyrus has other plans.
12. Kalyug
Starring Kunal Khemu, Emraan Hashmi, Smilie Suri, Deepal Shaw, Amrita Singh and Ashutosh Rana in lead roles, this 2005 action thriller follows a young man on his journey to avenge the death of his wife due to leaked footage of intimate moments.
