There are many times that we really love a movie but it tanks at the box office. And, we keep wondering – “Why did that movie even flop?” Here are 10 Bollywood movies that were box office flops but we really loved watching them:
1. Swades
One of SRK’s finest performances, this movie is nothing less than a masterpiece! This movie captures the journey of a successful Indian scientist, who returns to an Indian village to take his nanny to America with him and in the process rediscovers his roots. It is quite disappointing how this movie even after touching so many hearts couldn’t drive numbers at the box-office.
2. Karwaan
With the talents like Irrfan Khan, Dulquer Salman, and Mithila Palker, this heartwarming comedy-drama is simple yet moving! The movie couldn’t generate numbers at the box-office, but we still love watching it anyway!
3. Sonchiriya
Despite receiving great reviews from the critics, this Sushant Singh Rajput and Manoj Bajpayee starrer bombed at the box office. There are a lot of people who missed out on this great film. Set in 1975, this movie is about a group of dacoits in the Chambal region. This movie even received the Filmfare Critics Award for Best Film in 2020 (along with Anubhav Sinha’s Article 15). It earned ₹8 crores.
4. Lakshya
This movie established Hrithik as a brilliant actor. Though this movie moved so many youngster, it couldn’t generate numbers at the box-office. With time, this movie of a good-for-nothing, jobless, grown man who joins the army has now become a cult-classic.
5. Tumbbad
Another great movie that was flop at box-office but we loved watching it. The movie is a masterpiece and every frame of the movie is a visual treat.
6. Andaz Apna Apna
As they say, Andaz Apna Apna is not a movie, it’s an emotion. We don’t think Bollywood be able to beat the on-screen chemistry of the famous Amar-Prem. Additionally, given the changing taste of the audience, we believe this comedy just won’t feel the same!
7. Socha Na Tha
Though it was Imtiaz Ali’s first film, it is nothing less than a masterpiece. This underrated movie is about a tale of two complicated people meeting in the most uncomplicated manner and then discovering their love for each other in a rather gradual way. This movie may not have performed well on the box office but with time, it has received cult status in all these years
8. Rocket Singh
One of the finest performances of Ranbir Kapoor, this movie left a hard-hitting impression on the audiences. This movie not only make you smile but inspire you in so many different ways. Though the movie tanked at the box office, Ranbir won a Filmfare for it.
9. Dil Se…
Starring Manisha Koirala and Shah Rukh Khan, the movie focused on a love story between a civilian and a terrorist. With the incredible soundtrack by AR Rahman, this movie received a lot of appreciation for its hard-hitting portrayal of human rights violations. Even though the movie didn’t perform well at the box-office, we still love watching it.
10. Rockstar
Another Ranbir’s performance that left many people impressed. But, unfortunately, the movie tanked at the box-office. But, now, it is considered a cult movie.
