No one can deny that Bollywood is an industry that thrives on nepotism. It has faced a lot of criticism for not giving outsiders a fair chance to succeed. Its shameless attempt to favor star kids over outsiders has irked many in recent times.
If you are a star kid, it is much easier to get a well-reputed production house to launch you as compared to outsiders, who struggle a lot to enter the industry. This unfairness may make you wonder if talent even matters in Bollywood. While nepotism may have given star kids an advantage, we can’t deny that audience has the power that can beat nepotism. And, the living proof is the failure of these star kids, whose Bollywood careers tanked despite nepotism. Here are 12 such star kids whose careers even nepotism could not save:
1. Sooraj Pancholi
Son of Aditya Pancholi, Sooraj Pancholi debuted in 2015 with the movie named Hero. Though he was launched with the support of Salman Khan, he failed miserably to impress the audience. He got another movie – Satellite Shankar – but once again failed to prove his talent and the movie tanked at the box office. He also got surrounded by different controversies, which added to his difficulties in winning more movies and ended his Bollywood career.
Even after being the daughter of famous Bollywood actor-couple, Dharmendra and Hema Malini, Esha Deol failed to win the audience’s hearts. Even though she worked in several movies, most of them ended up being a failure at the box office. Unfortunately, she failed to connect with the audience. One thing is sure – the audience can definitely defeat nepotism.
Son famous television actor – Suman Shekhar – Adhyayan debuted in Bollywood with the 2008 movie – Haal-E-Dil. He did a couple of other movies but none of his movies won the audience’s hearts. With his career coming to end, he was surrounded by many controversies related to Kangana Ranaut.
In a conversation with ETimes, Tanishaa Mukerji called herself the poster child of Nepotism failing, and said, “Main toh nepotism ki number 1 example honi chahiye thi. I have got Rani (Mukerji) on one side, Ajay (Devgn) on one side, my mother is Tanuja, my sister is Kajol and I also have Ayan (cousin) in the family. I am number one poster child of nepotism failing”. She worked in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu films. But still, she could not make big in the industry.
Son of director Harry Baweja, Harman Baweja, received a lot of attention during his Bollywood debut. His uncanny similarity with Hrithik Roshan created a lot of hype back then. But soon when his debut movie Love Story 2050 turned into a disaster, his career started to crash even before taking off. His other movies like What’s Your Rashee, Victory, etc. also failed, which brought the end to his career.
6. Fardeen Khan
Son of superstar Feroz Khan, Fardeen Khan made his debut in 1998 with the Bollywood movie Prem Aggan. With endless flaws, the movie proved disaster at the box office. Though Fardeen managed to do movies like Jungle and Pyaar Tune Kya Kiya, he failed to win the audience with his acting skills.
7. Uday Chopra
Even Uday Chopra, son of Yash Chopra, couldn’t make it big in Bollywood as an actor. Though it was quite easy for him to get a launchpad, his real struggle started post-Mohabattein. He did many movies but failed to hold the audience’s attention.

Son of Sanjay Khan, Zayed Khan made his debut with the movie – Main Hoon Na. Though the movie turned super-hit, Zayed Khan failed to replicate his father’s success. Other than the 2003 movie, Chura Liyaa Hai Tumne, the star-kid has never starred as a solo actor in any movie. And, unfortunately, other than Main Hoon Na, he has no hit to his credit. He was last seen in 2015 in Sharafat.
Twinkle Khanna, who is the daughter of superstars Rajesh Khanna and Dimple Kapadia, made her acting debut with Barsaat in 1995. Though she worked in many movies, most of them failed at the box office.
