It is heartbreaking to see how our society refuses to see the wounds and battle of acid attack survivors. In a social experiment video, Deepika Padukone shows how our society reacts to the acid attack survivors and their existence.

In her latest movie Chhapaak, Deepika Padukone is playing the role of an acid attack survivor. The movie is based on the real-life story of an acid attack survivor, Laxmi Aggarwal.
Recently Deepika conducted a social experiment that shows how our society reacts to the presence of acid attack survivors. As a part of the experiment, Deepika walked on the streets of Mumbai as Malti (the character that she plays in Chhapaak) along with acid attack survivors.
With hidden cameras installed across different locations in Mumbai – which included a mobile store, a supermarket, an accessories shop, and a local clothes market.
During the experiment, many people gave second stares to Deepika and the other acid attacks survivors. Sadly, some even refused to help them. However, there was a section of people who were seen exchanging smiles and behaving cordially in the video. The video ends with Deepika saying,
“Aaj pura din bita ke ye jaana ke kuchh nazar ke samne hota hai par dikhta nahi. Nazriya badalna zaroori hai”
(After spending the entire day, we relaised that some things are right in front of us but we can’t see them. It is important to change perspective).”
While sharing the video on social media, Deepika wrote:
“Chhapaak social experiment. Be the change you want to see… A social experiment by team Chhapaak.”
