Bollywood has its own share of complicated movies that were loved as much as they were hated by the audience. Attributing to the varied tastes of the audience, these complicated movies were not only immensely loved by a part of the audience but also immensely hated by others. 1. No Smoking
While many loved Anurag Kashyap’s neo-noir thriller and applauded his brilliance, there were many who called it utter rubbish. This complicated movie is about this guy K, who gets into a rehab center for quitting smoking and ends up in a dangerous trap. Agreed, the film was too complicated and required a lot of brain and reading between the lines, but it’s precisely why the film got a lot of mixed responses from the audience.
2. City Lights
Another intelligent film that stirred extreme emotions in the audience- both love and hate. Â Starring Rajkumar Rao and Patralekha, this movie was an adaptation of the British film Metro Manila. The emotional drama, directed by Hansal Mehta, captures the hardships faced by a not-so-privileged couple. While some found it moving, others found it slow and boring.
3. Dhobi Ghat
Dhobi Ghat – is one of the complicated movies, which was much debated. While many thought the movie made no sense at all, those few with a creative bent of mind thought it to be a brilliant film! The film revolved around four different people and how their life is interconnected by a common thread. Those, who could connect the dots, loved it, others simply disliked it!
4. Talaash
The main twist in the movie divided the audience into two groups – one who were seriously blown away by the main twist in the film and those who found it utterly disappointing.
5. Tamasha
Not everyone liked this emotional drama that beautifully inculcated modern times’ difficulties into it. While there were many who could connect to the emotional factor in the movie and there were others who didn’t like it at all!
6. Lootera
While some called it a masterpiece and some the utter crap! Lootera saw both Ranveer and Sonakshi’s best performances. While the film seems just so natural, it couldn’t perform well at the box office.
7. 7 Khoon Maaf
Vishal Bharadwaj’s 7 Khoon Maaf also garnered extreme reactions from the audience. The movie was a complicated tale of a woman and her tryst with different men in her life. Priyanka Chopra did full justice to her role. While some found the film too dark and a bit complicated, those who understood Vishal’s sensibilities, found it really intelligent.
8. Guzaarish
Khamoshi or Black or Guzaarish, some of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s movies are not meant for everyone. Starring Aishwarya Rai and Hrithik Roshan, Guzaarish was emotionally draining. While some found it too sad, others who could connect to the film found it really beautiful.
9. Rockstar
Even Rockstar met with extreme reactions from the audience. While for most of the audience, the film lacked a plot. And, that’s true as Nargis’s character falling terminally ill and dying was kind of cliche. But, one’s who could see Ranbir’s character’s POV, found the film breathtakingly beautiful.
10. The Ship Of Theseus
Anand Gandhi’s Ship Of Theseus was another such movie that got mixed reviews from the audience. Unlike any typical masala Bollywood movie, this was a documentary that stuck to the plot. The movie won the National Film Award for Best Picture but wasn’t everyone’s cup of tea!
11. Fitoor
While the movie tanked big time at the box office, those who have seen the film would vouch for the fact that both Aditya Roy Kapoor and Tabu have done a great job in it. The movie was beautiful for those who are interested in romance and literature. But a majority of the audience found this complicated romantic drama a mess!
12. Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara
Many people labeled it as a 3-hour long advertisement for Spain tourism. Some believed that the movie was only suitable only for the rich. But this Zoya Akhtar’s movie had its loyal audience. While a part of the audience couldn’t connect with the film, the other half found it to be really inspiring.
