Recently, Anushka Sharma, announced her Bollywood comeback with the film ‘Chakda Xpress’. The movie – ‘Chakda Xpress’ is based on the real life story of Indian cricketer Jhulan Goswami. The movie captures the glorious journey of one of the fastest female pacers in the history of world cricket. How she moves up the ladder despite resistance and obstacles posed by misogynistic politics is an inspiration for all those who are fighting for their dreams.
While sharing the teaser of the movie with her fans, Anushka wrote: “It is an extraordinary film because it is essentially a story of tremendous sacrifice. Chakda Xpress is inspired by the life and times of former Indian captain Jhulan Goswami, and it will be an eye-opener into the world of women’s cricket.”
She further added, “At a time when Jhulan decided to become a cricketer and make her country proud on the global stage, it was very tough for women to even think of playing the sport.”

But as soon as the teaser was shared, many people started reacting to Anushka’s look and accent. Calling her accent ‘cringy’, fans wondered why a Bengali actor wasn’t cast to play the part.
Reacting to the teaser, fans wrote:
Why cast #AnushkaSharma when she can’t pull of even basics like the accent and look ? #JhulanGoswami looks nothing like Anushka, why not cast a Bengali ? Being a #Netflix original they should have invested in the content more than “famous actors”. 👎 #ChakdaXpress https://t.co/CbKyS4Qoj1— Elizabeth Bennet (@Elizabe82320790) January 6, 2022
Nothing against Anushka she is a brilliant actress but as a bengali I have issues with the weird accent.— Munni (@BIDISHA27045246) January 6, 2022
Anushka Sharma speaking in a Bengali Accent has to be the worst thing in 2022 and we’re only 6 days in— ⭐⭐ (@theregistaking) January 6, 2022
Anushka Sharma as Jhulan Goswami… that horrible Bengali accent, can’t wait for a terrible bowling action as well. #ChakdaXpress— Aniket Bose (@ABnormalConnect) January 6, 2022
Much waited comeback of Anushka but kinda disappointing.Anushka not seems to be fit for the role of Julan ,and the struggle to speak the Bengali accent is quite evident🤦.Should cast some other for the role. https://t.co/gFVhi9nLUF— Vii (@_Vvvviiiiiii) January 6, 2022
Sorry to say but anushka sharma doesn’t look anyway near the great jhulan goswami..her bengali accent is so fake and stereotyped. thats the fault of Bollywood biopic..they tend to search for the stars instead of searching for a person who looks the role #ChakdaXpress— Sourav Roy (@roy183sourav) January 6, 2022
I’m happy coz a biopic on Jhulan Goswami is coming. I’m also happy for Anushka coming back but this trailer is disappointing. What’s wrong with the accent!! 🤧🤧🤧— Ananya (@LoungingBanjara) January 6, 2022
You could have easily cast a Bengali actor man!! https://t.co/k6Uuv5jc68
IS THAT A BENGALI ACCENT ANUSHKA SPEAKING IN THE TRAILER???— Mohona (@extraaacheese) January 6, 2022
I AM OFFENDED 😭
Anushka Sharma playing Jhulan Goswami is the same as Priyanka Chopra playing Mary Kom.— SHR (@IndusFederalist) January 6, 2022
A fair-skinned Punjabi actress will be playing someone who is, well, dusky, for lack of a better word.
You couldn’t find an actress from Bengal to play her role?
As a Bengali, I love the concept of showcasing the best fast bowler of India – Jhulan Goswami.— Akash Roy (@thewreckedjoker) January 6, 2022
But Netflix choosing Anushka Sharma with that caricature-ish broken stigmatised accent doesn’t sit well with me.
I can say casting her isn’t justified. Neither height nor look matches.
Jhulan Goswami is one of the biggest sports icons in India . She deserves better . Anushka Sharma isn’t looking suitable for the role . Height , colour nothing matches with Legend Goswami. Also anushka sharma’s cringe bengali accent 🤢 ruined the plot totally— Subham (@subhsays) January 6, 2022
why didn’t they cast a bengali actress instead ? there are so many talented bengali actresses…the accent is so so bad 😭 even anushka’s good acting isnt saving because of her bad bengali accent 😭 https://t.co/mJlQEWJNK6— ayushi ⁷ (@_DevAkshi__) January 6, 2022
