Life took an ugly turn for this 3-year-old girl when she not only witnessed her parents’ death but was also locked all alone with the dead bodies for over 11 hours. Hungry, lonely, dazed this young child displayed great courage while living the most dreadful nightmare.
What this brave 3-year-old told her grandfather in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh on a call will send a chill down to anyone’s spine. Her words: “Papa, mummy are dead… And I am hungry” is a chilling reminder of the 2017-award-winning thriller ‘Pihu’.
On Sunday, when the police and family members entered the house, the little girl ran towards her grandfather and grabbed his legs. No one would have ever imagined that they would find this toddler alone with her dead parents — the victims of an apparent murder-suicide.
While recalling the details of this heart-wrenching incident, Madhoganj TI Ajay Pawar told TOI that the murder-suicide of Sathyendra Bhadoria and his wife Anshu probably took place around midnight on Saturday. He further added:
“Unfortunately, the child witnessed it. We can make out that she was there all the time. She has told us about the fight between her parents and how the shots were fired.”
Sathyendra lived with his parents and two brothers — who are in the army — in the same house. His father is a retired army man. Ajay Pawar further added:
“They had separate rooms. Both his brothers are posted in separate army bases in north India and his parents were in Chitrakoot on Saturday.”
His brothers shared that though Sathyendra was jobless, he was supported by his family. The family had pooled in to buy land, house, and a car for the family. The family denied that there was any deep, long-running dispute between Sathyendra and his wife Anshu.
As per SP Navneet Bhasin,
“We have come to know that Sathyendra was angry over his wife’s decision to attend a wedding of a distant relative though they had not got a proper invite.”

SP Navneet told TOI that their house is in an isolated place and hence, no one knew the girl was alone until Sathyendra’s father-in-law Abhay Singh Bhadoria made a call on Sunday. The toddler took the call and said:
“Nanu, mummy mar gayi (Grandpa, mummy is dead).”
Shocked Abhay Singh asked the toddler to give the phone to her father, to which child replied:
“Woh bhi mar gaye, aur mujhe bohot bhook lagi hai. Jaldi aa jao (He is also dead, and I am very hungry. Please come soon).”
As Abhay lived around 2km away, he rushed to the place along with police and relatives. When they entered they found this 3-year-old crying in the hall while her parents lay dead in the bedroom.
At IFORHER, while we pray for the courage for this 3-year-old and the rest of the family to bear this pain. We are heartbroken how a small fight between the parents changed the life of this 3-yo forever.
We hope you will also include this little girl in your prayers so that life could go a little easy on her.
