There have been many times that we admired the supporting characters more than the main leads. With their great acting skills and honest portrayal of the character, they landed up impressing us even more than the main lead. Here are Bollywood movies that we re-watched for the supporting character and not for the main lead.
1. Kashibai over Bajirao & Mastani in Bajirao-Mastani
Nailing the character of Kashibai in Bajirao Mastani, Priyanka Chopra’s screen presence was way stronger than Ranveer Singh, who played Bajirao. Even though Mastani (Deepika Padukone) was the leading lady in the film, she was clearly sidelined by Priyanka’s brilliant performance as Kashibai. With powerful dialogues, Kashibai won us!
2. Rahul Kapoor over Arjun Kapoor in Kapoor & Sons
Many would agree that they re-watched Kapoor & Sons for Fawad Khan and not for Siddharth Malhotra. And, while we may not agree that Rahul Kapoor (Fawad Khan) was a supporting character in Kapoor & Sons, but, sadly, that’s how all the Bollywood awards categorized this character. With the real struggle of coming out to his family, Rahul Kapoor left a much lasting effect on the audience than the main lead – Arjun Kapoor (played by Siddharth Malhotra)
3. Baburao over Raju & Shyam
What made Hera Pheri such a massive hit is Baburao’s (Paresh Rawal) comic timing and flawless dialogue delivery. Though Suniel Shetty and Akshay Kumar did a great job, it was Paresh Rawal’s charm that made this movie extraordinary.
4. Saba in Ae Dil Hai Mushkil
While the main leads were melodramatic in this movie, the character of Saba was the only reason why many of us revisited the movie. Saba (Aishwarya Rai) redefined elegance, confidence, pride, and self-love. Among the immature and toxic characters, you could admire this grown-up and self-assured character even more. In the loud movie, she brought heart-touching romance and sensuality, which made the movie worth revisiting. (Also Read: Aishwarya Rai Bachchan quotes to inspire you to live life on your own terms.)
5. Rajpal Yadav in most of his movies
Be it his Paani act in Bhool Bhulaiyaa or Jyotshi character in Mujhse Shaadi Karogi, he never left his fans disappointed. Rajpal Yadav may have played the supporting characters, but he managed to outshine the main leads in many movies. And, one such movie, where he managed to do so is Chup Chupke. We rewatched Chup Chupke only for Rajpal Yadav and not for the main leads!

6. Tabu In Bhool Bhulaiya 2, Haider, Andhadhun
Tabu is so talented that she can overshadow any actor in the film industry. So, even though Bollywood may categorize her characters as supporting characters, she always overshone the main leads. Be it Bhool Bhualiya 2 or Haider or Andhadhun, Tabu always left her audience impressed.
7. Bhiku Mhatre in Satya
How could we not mention Bhiku Mhatre on this list? While many of us admired Satya, Bhiku Mhatre is the one we fell in love with. With Manoj Bajpayee’s hard-hitting performance and well-written character, Bhiku Mhatre won our hearts!
There are many more supporting characters, who stole the show from the main leads. Which supporting actor performed better than the lead actor? What do you think? Tell us in the comments below.
