The Gentlemen Season 2 ends with Eddie Horniman becoming a very different man from the one we met at the start of the series. He once wanted criminals away from his family estate. By the finale, he is deciding how people should be punished and who deserves to die.
The ending answers the biggest questions about Bella’s death, Freddy’s betrayal, Gospel John and Bobby Glass. But more importantly, it shows just how far Eddie has changed.
The Gentlemen Season 2 Ending Explained
The finale begins with Eddie believing that Bobby Glass is behind the attacks on his family. A surviving mercenary seems to confirm Eddie’s suspicion, and Eddie quickly asks Marco Moretti to arrange Bobby’s murder in prison.
But Eddie soon learns that he may have made a terrible mistake. Uncle Stan reveals information that makes Eddie realize Bobby was probably not behind the attacks. The problem is that the assassin is already on the way.
Eddie and Susie rush to the prison and manage to stop the plan. Bobby survives, but the search for the real person responsible continues.
That search finally leads to Gospel John. The bigger shock is that Eddie’s own brother Freddy knew about Gospel John’s plans and became involved with him.
Why Did Freddy Betray Eddie?
Freddy has always carried some anger toward Eddie. Even though Freddy is the older brother, Eddie inherited the Halstead estate and title. Freddy has struggled with that for a long time.
Gospel John takes advantage of Freddy’s jealousy and frustration. He makes Freddy feel that Eddie has taken away the life that should have belonged to him.
Freddy allows that anger to pull him into Gospel John’s plans. By the time he realizes how dangerous everything has become, Bella is dead and Halstead Manor has been attacked.
Freddy may not have planned every part of what happened, but his decisions helped Gospel John get close to Eddie and his family.
Did Freddy Kill Bella?
No, Freddy does not directly kill Bella. Gospel John is the main person behind the conspiracy, but Freddy is involved in helping him.
That is why Eddie sees Freddy as partly responsible. Freddy allowed his anger toward his brother to push him into something much bigger and more dangerous than he expected.
Bella’s death makes the betrayal even more painful because Eddie had truly fallen in love with her.
Why Does Eddie Make Freddy Kill Gospel John?
When Freddy admits his role, Eddie beats him and points a gun at him. It looks like Eddie may kill his own brother.
But Eddie chooses a different punishment.
Gospel John has already been captured and placed inside a van. Eddie sends Freddy into the van with him. Moments later, the sound of a chainsaw can be heard.
When the doors open again, Freddy walks out covered in blood and holding Gospel John’s severed head.
Eddie could have killed Gospel John himself, but forcing Freddy to do it punishes both men. Gospel John dies, while Freddy is forced to face the consequences of helping him.
What Does The Final Scene Mean?
The most important part of the final scene is not just Gospel John’s death. It is Eddie’s reaction.
Eddie stays calm throughout everything. He does not look shocked by what has happened. Instead, he behaves like someone who is completely in control.
This shows how much Eddie has changed. In the beginning, he wanted nothing to do with the criminal world. Now, he is giving orders and deciding how his enemies should be punished.
By the end of Season 2, Eddie is no longer simply trying to survive among criminals. He is becoming one of them.
Why Bella’s Death Changes Eddie
Bella plays a major role in Eddie’s transformation. Their relationship may begin with practical reasons, but Eddie eventually falls in love with her.
After surviving Bobby’s brutal attack, Eddie asks Bella to marry him. The two get married at Lake Maggiore, but their happiness lasts only a few hours.
Bella later takes off in a seaplane while Eddie travels by road. The plane suddenly explodes in front of him.
Her death leaves Eddie devastated. Bella had given him the chance to imagine a different kind of future, one that was not only about crime and power. After losing her, Eddie becomes much colder and more willing to use violence.
What Happens Between Eddie And Bobby Glass?
Eddie and Bobby’s relationship is already badly damaged before the finale. They clash over the future of the cannabis business, with Eddie seeing opportunities that Bobby does not agree with.
Bobby responds by having Eddie badly beaten and left in a shallow grave. Eddie survives, but he no longer sees Bobby in the same way.
That is why Eddie is so ready to believe that Bobby is behind the attacks. Even after saving Bobby from the prison hit, their relationship is not repaired.
Eddie may still work with the Glass family in the future, but he clearly does not want to take orders from Bobby anymore.
What Is Susie Planning?
Susie also ends the season in an interesting position. She remains close to Eddie, but she is starting to build something of her own.
She develops new connections that do not completely depend on Bobby. This suggests that Susie may be preparing to step outside her father’s shadow.
Both Eddie and Susie now want more independence, which could make their relationship even more complicated in the future.
What Does The Ending Set Up Next?
By the end of the season, almost everyone is trying to gain more power.
Bobby wants to expand his criminal empire. Susie is building her own connections. Eddie no longer wants to work under anyone, and Freddy has crossed a line that may change him forever.
That leaves the criminal world around Halstead more unstable than ever.
What The Gentlemen Season 2 Ending Really Means
The ending is really about Eddie’s transformation.
He has gained more confidence, more power and more control, but he has also become much more ruthless. Bella’s death and Freddy’s betrayal push him even further into the criminal world.
The biggest question now is whether Eddie is becoming violent only because he needs to survive, or whether he is starting to enjoy the power that comes with being in control.
That is what makes The Gentlemen Season 2 ending so important. Eddie may be stronger than ever, but he is also moving further away from the man he used to be.
