While Gehraiyaan may not be able to live up to the hype, there are some scenes that have touched our hearts. Be it about the conversation between Alisha (Deepika Padukone) and Zain (Siddhant Chaturvedi) about the abusive marriage or the heart-touching dialogue exchange between Alisha and her father (Naseeruddin Shah).
Directed by Shakun Batra, Gehraiyaan attempts to capture the complex emotions we feel in relationships. The movie is not just about a romantic relationship. Rather it touches mental health, childhood trauma, our relationships with parents, and complex life choices.
No one can deny that movie has its share of flaws, but how it speaks to the viewers about letting go of the past touched many hearts.

The particular scene when Naseeruddin Shah opens up to Deepika about the life choices made the internet fall in love with Shah once again. In just 5 minutes of the screen time, Shah captures your attention like no other character.
In this scene, Naseeruddin talks about Alisha’s mother and the mistakes she made in their marriage. He beautifully comforts Alisha that we are more than our bad decisions. And, our bad choices don’t define us. He wishes he could have saved her mother and made her understand that her life was so much more than one mistake!

Even netizens loved this particular scene and Naseeruddin’s amazing acting skills:

Undoubtedly my favorite scene. Dude Naseeruddin just comes in a movie for five minutes and steals the show every time. This scene alone made me want to forgive the rest of the frustrating mess spanning 2 hours. #Gehraaiyaan pic.twitter.com/wNk02yVnWo

This powerful scene is a reminder of how we need to accept our past and move on from it, instead of constantly fighting it. This reminds us that we can’t shake off the baggage; we can only learn to carry it so that it does not seem as heavy over time. It reminds us to give ourselves a chance because we are much more than our mistakes!
