However, few Bollywood celebrities have given up non-vegetarian food completely and have turned vegetarian for life. These actors are practicing a vegetarian lifestyle for different reasons. 1. Shraddha Kapoor
In 2020, PETA announced Shraddha Kapoor as the ‘hottest’ vegetarian. Sometime back, Shraddha also took to Instagram to open up about not consuming meat. Sadly, she received a lot of flak in the comment section. But, Shraddha still remains a vegetarian.
2. Shahid Kapoor
Shahid Kapoor, who is famous for his hardcore fitness regime, is also a vegetarian. Yes, a vegetarian! Shahid Kapoor shared how he gave up eating meat after reading Brian Hines, Life Is Fair. His father, Pankaj Kapoor gifted him this book.
3. Anushka Sharma
In 2018, Anushka Sharma announced that she is a vegetarian. She had said, “Going vegetarian was one of the best decisions I ever made. I have more energy, I feel healthier, and I’m so happy that no animals had to suffer for my meals.”
4. Amitabh Bachchan
Yes, Amitabh Bachchan too! In fact, Amitabh Bachchan was named the ‘hottest’ vegetarian celebrity, not once but thrice by PETA. Amitabh Bachchan is famous for making healthy choices. Sometime back, he shared how he gave up meat along with rice, aerated drinks, smoking, and alcohol for health reasons.
5. Kangana Ranaut
Despite being born into a family that thrives on eating non-vegetarian food, Kangana turned into a vegetarian for a spiritual reason. In an interview, she said, “Spiritually, being a non-vegetarian was blocking me. It was hard to leave and I won’t say that I don’t crave it, but you can do it with your willpower.” She also mentioned that she turned vegan as well since dairy gave her acidity. Like Amitabh Bachchan and Shraddha Kapoor, Kangana has also been named in the Hottest vegetarian PETA title.
6. Aamir Khan
Aamir Khan used to love eating fish, chicken, eggs, and meat. But, sometime back, Aamir not only turned vegetarian but also turned vegan as he also gave up dairy. This transition in his lifestyle happened after his ex-wife, Kiran Rao, showed him an impactful video, and it changed his diet plan and lifestyle.
7. R Madhavan
For the unversed, even R Madhavan is a vegetarian. In fact, he was named ‘Person Of The Year’ by PETA. He is passionate about nature and has spoken about growing tasteful herbs and veggies in his kitchen garden. Madhavan said in an interview, “I’m a vegetarian. When you see what goes inside a slaughterhouse, I think you’ll lose your appetite for animal flesh too.”
8. Bhumi Pednekar
Bhumi Pednekar has been always vocal about environmental protection. During the lockdown, she even turned vegetarian. While taking to social media, she shared a post on her vegetarian journey. In a post, she spoke about how she wanted to turn vegetarian for a long time, and she could finally do that. She also added, “My journey with Climate Warrior taught me a lot. It made me more compassionate towards other species and made me more humble.”
9. Alia Bhatt
Alia Bhatt had earlier revealed that she has adopted a vegetarian diet to stay healthy, As per Cosmopolitan India, the actor had said, “It’s definitely because of the heat that I am staying off meat, and I’m beginning to enjoy my new diet. I never was a hardcore non-vegetarian anyway. As of now, I am a vegetarian, and I hope it will last.”
10 & 11. Riteish & Genelia Deshmukh
Both Riteish Deshmukh and Genelia have given up on meat and turned into vegetarians a few years ago. Do you know the couple also have a venture named Imagine Meats, which makes plant-based meat? Plant-based meat is a good substitute for non-veg food. Riteish took to social media to share a note on his vegetarian lifestyle. In this post, he wrote, “I have been a hardcore meat eater who turned vegetarian 4 years ago. Let me be honest there have been times when I have craved the taste and indulgence of meat. With Plant-Based Meat around, I am a much happier vegetarian now. I would rather just imagine meat.”
On ditching meat, Genelia Deshmukh confessed, “Turning vegetarian was a choice I took a couple of years ago.. I honestly thought it was going to be really really tough but I was determined to make it work.. On my journey, I realised the beauty of plants, the various colours I see through them and eventually the nutrients I get through them but most importantly I feel less cruel to animals…”
