A lot happened last week that gave us theĀ glimpse of how our society and country is going to change.
And, the change will be driven by inspiring and dedicated women, who are not scared of being judged by the society.
Here, we celebrate these 4 Real Sheroes, who have inspired millions of women like you & us this week.
#1.Ā Neelam Gaikwad: A Brave Constable Who Rescued 15 Kids Single-Handedly during Pune Floods
When a wall of the Mutha river canal in Pune collapsed on Thursday, it resulted in sudden flooding. And, within minutes, the river water gushed on the roads and in many huts in nearby slums. It happened so quickly that no one had time to chalk out a safety plan.
But, the area was blessed to have a dedicated and a brave police constable – Neelam Gaikwad. She is known to be well equipped with dealing with emergency situations.Ā Devidas Ghevare, a police inspector toldĀ Pune Mirror,
āShe is always on the forefront in situations like this. She is one of the bravest and most dutiful officers that Pune police have. During Ganpati Visarjan earlier this week, she played a major role in controlling traffic and also handling drunkards. But she can be equally aggressive when tackling law violators and criminals.ā

And on Thursday, when water entered roads and homes, Gaikwad sprung into action yet again.
āWhen I reached, I found people flailing in the water that was swelling fast. There was nobody to rescue them. I handed my purse and mobile phone to a stranger and got ready to wade in. Even as I was removing my shoes in a shop, I spotted its owner desperately trying to keep himself from drowning. Noticing a garage nearby, I grabbed a tyre from there, strung it to a rope and threw it to him, so he could stay afloatā the 28-year-old said.
For the people who were caught in the flood, Gaikwad is a true hero. She rescued 15 children and a number of adults within two hours. Does society still think that women are weak?
#2: Tanushree Datta Opens Up About HarassmentĀ
Former Miss India Universe, Tanushree Dutta opened up to News18, about how she was one of the first people in the history of B-Town to speak up about her own #MeToo experience in Bollywood.
She had spoken up in 2008 about harassment by Nana Patekar on the sets ofĀ Horn OK Please. At the time she had said that Nana tried to push her and intimidate her on the sets of the film.Ā She spoke up recently about the incident, again.
Many celebrities like Priyanka Chopra, Farhan Akhtar, and Twinkle Khanna came forward to support her because they know how important it is for us to believe a woman when she opens up about her abuse.Ā It takes a lot of courage to stand against the powerful and call out the sexual harassment.Ā Ā
A very strong message for people who thought women will not speak, out of fear or shame!
#3: Body-Shamed By Husband & Mother Of 6-Yr-Old, Ruby Is Winning Medals For India
Ruby was body shamed for being overweight and abandoned by her husband because of her physical appearance. However, unlike many, she did not let that discourage her and instead took to fitness to avenge herself.
Speaking to ANI, Ruby said,
āMy husband said that he lost interest in me because of my weight. It was then when it hit me the hardest that I have to take care of my fitness. I started walking and lost a lot of weight after that. It became even more difficult after I had my son. But I could do it because I had set my goal.ā
āIt was difficult financially because one has to consume expensive supplements, but I manage with my Zumba classes. I have won nationals in Assam in bodybuilding and won Ms.Chennai as well. And, I want the state government to help me grow more. I have proved myself, and I want to show that women can do this. So far there was no one from our state in this field,ā she added.
In our society, where women are made to feel inferior about our looks, Rubyās story comes as a ray of hope for many of us who are struggling with a negative body image issue.
HerĀ response to the challenge assures us that every cloud has a silver lining and we need to push ourselves to find our silver lining.
