As many of daughters-in-law and mothers-in-law struggle with their relationships, how this brave daughter-in-law stood with her mother-in-law in her cancer battle is quite inspiring.
No one can deny that the relationship between mother-in-law and daughter-in-law is quite complex. Most of us struggle to make this relationship work.
Though it is very common to come across the disheartening and harassment acts of how one mistreats the other, the beautiful act of Namitha is not only beautiful yet inspiring.
A few months back, Namitha came to know about her mother-in-law is struggling with stage-3 cancer. She found a great way to provide emotional support to her. While her mother-in-law underwent chemotherapy, Namitha, who is a content lead at an online finance company, shaved her head to support her. In fact, she decided to donate her hair so that it can be used by someone in need.
Recalling her mother-in-law struggle, Namitha shared with Indiatimes,
“We didn’t want her to get bogged down by the fear of the disease. I’ve thought about this and once her hair begins to fall, I’ll tell her, ‘Look maa, I also did it and it’s okay.”
She further adds how she wants her act to inspire people to donate their hair:
“I also hope this inspires people to donate hair that would help so many patients out their who cannot afford natural hair wigs.”
Namitha shared a picture where she is seen happily getting clicked with a healthy growth of hair now being chopped off.
The sentiment behind this picture is really selfless and inspiring.
Cancer cells grow at a very fast pace. And sometimes, the only way to kill the rapidly-growing cancer cells is through chemotherapy. During the chemotherapy, the drugs are injected, which travel throughout the body. And, these drugs damage the fast-growing healthy cells too.
Sadly, the cells that get affected in chemo includes the hair follicles along with the blood-forming cells in the bone marrow, cells in the mouth, digestive tract and reproductive system. That is why hair fall is common during cancer treatment.
As per cancer.org, losing hair during cancer treatment saddens and worries a lot of patients.
Along with the above-mentioned side effects, some chemo drugs can even damage cells in the bladder, lungs, kidney, heart and nervous system. So the doctor tends to give chemotherapy at the level that helps to kill the cancer cells, keeping the side effects to the minimum.
In a world, where humanity and relationships are losing their meanings, this daughter-in-law shares a very inspiring lesson in both humanity as well as in relationships.
At I FOR HER, we wish more power to this family and hope this mother gets well soon. She is very lucky to be blessed with such a kind and loving daughter-in-law.
As more and more patients suffer through cancer, we hope that the hair she donated will really change the life of someone, who cannot afford to buy expensive wigs.
Fighting against cancer could be really tough. In case, you know of a warrior who is fighting for her life against illness, do share her story and it will be shared with our community to celebrate her courage.
