When a 31-year-old debt-ridden Tamil Nadu woman was on the brink of ending her life with her three kids, hardly she knew her destiny had different plans. Her fate intervened to encourage her to fight against her life circumstances for her kids.
And, now this brave mother has an inspiring story to share with the rest of us, who are about to give up on their life.
According to TOI, 7 months ago Prema’s husband committed suicide. And, he left this mother of three kids neck-deep in debt. Prema’s husband took this drastic step as he was cheated on a loan for Rs 2.5 lakh, that was sanctioned to him to set up a business.
As the debt started piling up, it became very difficult for Prema to take care of her three children. For her kids, this mother approached every person she knew, seeking money. Talking about how people gave her excuses, she shared:
“I couldn’t go to work as I fell sick for a week and my children were crying for food. I had no money. I begged my neighbors for help, but they refused to give either food or money.”
Finally, she was approached by a man who offered to help if she was ready to sell her hair for wigs. Left with little choice, Prema agreed. Recalling her miserable plight she further added:
“I had to sell my hair for Rs 150 in order to feed my starving children. I work for daily wages and the money will be sufficient for just a day’s meal for me and my children.”
Post which, Prema slipped into depression and even attempted suicide. She was, however, saved by her sister.
But what happened next changed the course of Prema’s life forever. Then help came in the form of a social media post by her boss identified as Prabhu, the owner of a brick kiln. While sharing how he decided to help Prema, he shared:
“When she narrated her whole story, I wanted to help her recover completely. I didn’t want to stop with just giving her money as it was a temporary solution. I wanted a permanent solution for her. My friend Bala and I decided to post her story on Facebook and urge people for help”
Being moved by his Facebook post, Prema decided to fight for a better life for her kids:
“I am so overwhelmed by the support of people. I will never even think of committing suicide again. I want to give a good education to my children and take them out of this penury,”
The Salem district administration also took cognizance of Prema’s struggles and sanctioned a fund of Rs 25,000 and a ration card, assuring her she will be able to avail of a monthly pension for widows.
At IFORHER, we are amazed at the goodwill of people who came forward to help Prema and her kids. Such a heart-warming act of kindness ignites the ray of hope that mankind can still turn this cruel and ugly world into a better place.
