The inspiring life journey of Noopur Singh – from being declared dead at birth to the winner of Kaun Banega Crorepati – is for each one of us who are struggling hard to achieve our dreams. Her story is a reminder that we are bigger than our challenges, and we are stronger than our problems!

Some stories are so inspiring that they make you believe in the power of determination and persistence. They make you believe that if you set your mind on your goals rather than on your life circumstances, you can achieve anything.
One such story is of Noopur Singh, who never let her challenges dictate her life.
Born in Kanpur hospital, Noopur was declared “born dead” and thrown in the dustbin by the doctors. It was then that a relative saw some signs of life in the newborn and picked her up.
Because of the first few minutes of negligence by the doctors, Noopur grew up physically challenged. But she never let herself be limited by her disability.
And that’s why twenty-nine years later Noopur Singh has won Rs 12.5 lakh at the country’s most celebrated game show ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’ (KBC). The show is hosted by superstar Amitabh Bachchan, and Noopur answered 12 questions successfully.
Born to a farmer Ramkumar Singh and his wife Kalpana Singh, Noopur, who took her first steps at the age of eight, shared with HT:
“Whatever I have achieved is due to my education and parents. Despite my disabilities, I kept on learning and my parents believed that education was the only way to overcome my problems. Even in the darkest situation, an educated person will find a way out. I thank God also that he gave me a normal and healthy brain.”
“During my Caesarian delivery, due to the doctor’s mistake, I was hit by medical instruments. Assuming me to be dead, they dumped me in a dustbin. Later, when someone patted me, I cried and came back to life. Thereafter, doctors started experimenting on me and my case worsened.”
She moves with the help of a walker and refuses to be on a wheelchair which she calls is her biggest nightmare.

While recalling her pillar of strength – her school teacher, Noopur shared how her teacher kept her fighting spirit alive:
“One person who has played an important role is my Aparna Joshi Ma’am during my school days. Till today, she is my pillar of strength and keeps inspiring me. She recognised that education alone can change my destiny and motivated me. She has taught me that everyone wants to reach the goal but it’s important to peruse it and even if one does not achieve the goal, the journey itself teaches a lot. And, she has kept the fighter – Jhansi Ki Rani – in me alive.”
When her mother Kalpana Singh spoke on the show, we realized how happy and proud she was of her daughter’s achievement:
“Noopur, despite her disability, has always been a good student. She was on the merit list in Intermediate and got through the B.Ed entrance test in the first attempt.
Today, she teaches children in a play group and also gives free education to Class 10 students.”

Talking about her journey to KBC, the proud mother said that whenever the game show was telecast on TV, Noopur would answer the questions correctly even before the contestants.
“When this season began, we asked her to apply and she was selected. Our happiness knew no bounds when she ended up winning Rs 12.5 lakh,” she said.
And, what is so inspiring about Noopur is the fact that she holds no grudges against doctors who were responsible for her disability. Her mother said,
“She says that it was her destiny and she does not blame anyone,”
Even after being physically challenged for her life, Noopur’s brave and courageous act of not holding any grudge against doctors is so inspirational. Her ability to focus on her strengths rather than her challenges is what makes her special.
So next time when you tend to criticize your life circumstances or blame your situations, please remember the inspiring story of Noopur.
