Weddings – the season of family reunion, beautiful clothes, lot of entertainment, music and yummy food! But, one thing that always leaves us disappointed is the massive food wastage that happens at many weddings. In a country, where more than half of the population struggles to get three meals a day, wasting food is no less than a sin.
Recently, we stumbled over a beautiful story of how a woman distributed leftover food from her brother’s wedding reception to the underprivileged in Kolkata.
As per the sources, the woman, Papiya Kar, was spotted sitting on a station platform in West Bengal. She was sitting with big containers filled with food from the reception. This woman was serving meals on paper plates by herself to the underprivileged at the station.
Nilanjan Mondal, a wedding photographer, spotted the woman at the station at around 1 am and identified her as Papiya Kar. Mondal shared how it was her brother’s wedding reception, and a large amount of food was leftover. But, rather than letting it go to waste, Kar decided to deliver it to the needy herself.
Many underprivileged lined up to get food from the woman. Mondal shared these photographs in a Facebook wedding photographers’ group, and from there, the pics went viral for all the right reasons.
