IFORHER’s Women Empowerment Series capture true stories of real people who are stepping out of their comfort zone to support women to lead a healthy and happy life. The way Dr. Balnamchi Sangma came forward to support a pregnant woman in dire need of help is quite inspiring.
Meghalaya: During the tough circumstances when someone is in need of help, many chose to ignore or stay silent. But real heroes find their courage to come forward to support others and re-write their destiny. One such real hero is Dr. Balnamchi Sangma.
When Banlnamchi found a pregnant lady in need of help, rather than shutting her eyes, she decided to go beyond the line of duty to help her. Dedicated to saving the life of a to-be mom, this doctor drove the ambulance on her own to shift her patient to a nearby hospital.
The pregnant woman, who was facing serious complications with her pregnancy was admitted at Garobadha PHC, the place where Dr. Balnamchi Sangma works. But due to lack of facilities, the doctors decided to transfer her immediately to MCH Tura for proper treatment.
It was at that moment, Dr. Balnamchi Sangma came to know that both drivers of the ambulance were on leave.
Without wasting a moment, she turned a hero and drove the ambulance for 36 Km to shift the pregnant woman to Maternity and Child Hospital (MCH) in Tura to save two lives.
