While the whole world is living under the fear of contracting Coronavirus, this brave Mumbai cop has done the selfless act of cremating unclaimed bodies.
In these tough times even the family members are refusing to claim the dead bodies of their own loved ones. But Cop Naik Sandhya Shilavant of Shahu Nagar Police Station – has shown how real heroes are leading disgruntled humanity during these testing times.
Sandhya Shilavant works as an accidental death register (ADR) Karkun. Her job is to investigate accidental death cases, find their identity, and then dispose off the bodies.
As per recent reports, this Police officer performed the last rites of four people out of which one was tested positive for COVID-19. Describing the event, she added,
“Our police station staff went to the Bhoiwada crematorium where the BM staffers brought all the four bodies from the Sion Hospital and we stayed there till the final rites are conducted. I returned only after the crematorium authorities gave us receipts about the cremation.”
What makes us salute this mother of a 13-year-old daughter and a 9-year-old son is her courage and determination to serve her countrymen.
This selfless act was also lauded by Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh.
Shilavant shared with ToI, how she has been supported by her family in this quest towards her duty:
“Nowadays my children are also worried. I want to do my duty and take all the precautions. My father in-law, who was a policeman, understands my job profiles and supports me. My family is with me.”
Shilavant said that when she reaches home, sanitizer is kept outside, and she enters home only after washing hands.
“I remove the mask, gloves and directly to take bath which is now compulsory as safety measure.”
Not just us, but many netizens came forward to celebrate this brave cop. We feel her courage is a symbol of true feminism as she inspires many to be humane during these testing times.
