In the times, when our reel heroes are failing us, here is a powerful story of a real hero – Nilanjana Chatterjee. Nilanjana is a brave Kolkata woman, who suffered a fracture in the shin bone while rescuing a girl who was being molested in a car. This incident took place in the Anandapur area of South Kolkata.
On the night of September 5, Chatterjee was returning home with her husband, Deep Satpathi, from a party. While sharing the details with TOI, Deep Satpathi mentioned,
“We were coming back after attending my mother-in-law’s birthday when my wife heard a girl screaming for help from a car behind our car and asked me to stop the car.”Â
“Nilanjana ran to the car to save the girl when the man behind the wheels pushed her out and ran over her leg’s.”
While the girl who was rescued suffered a few stitches, it was Nilanjana who was wounded badly. She suffered six stitches due to a head injury and multiple fractures. Â
So What Happened
Based on what Murlidhar Sharma, Jt. Commissioner of Police (Crime) told TOI, this case was not about a blind date. The victim knew the accused. As per HT, the woman mentioned in her complaint that she got acquainted with Basu just a week ago and they agreed to go out on Saturday evening. The woman alleged that Basu attacked her and reportedly tore her clothes, as per HT. Â
As per Telegraph, Nilanjana Chatterjee, with the help of a walker, started to walk again on September 11. Her proud daughter, Shreyashi Chatterjee, elaborated that her mother is her ‘hero’ and said:
“My mother has always been the ‘boss woman’. Even before this particular incident she gave me enough reasons to be absolutely proud of her. She was a single mother and played the role of both the parents till she got married to baba (Deep Satpathi). She has always taught me to be courageous and to stand for what is right. even today she told me, ‘This should not go in vain. People must come forward to help others.’,
