It is heartbreaking to bid a final goodbye to Dr. C Mohan Reddy, a person who lived his life like a true hero. Unlike many others, he always prioritized others over his own self-interests. Better known as Chennai’s 10 Rupee Doctor, he only used to charge just Rs 10 from poor patients for medical consultation.Â
The 84-year-old real hero passed away on Wednesday as he collapsed suddenly and died because of respiratory failure. Our loving doctor died a few days after he recovered from COVID-19. He was tested positive for Covid-19 on June 25. He was admitted to a private hospital where he fought against the deadly virus and recovered fully.
In an era where doctors charge a hefty fee, it was quite heartwarming that this hero charged only Rs. 10 for the poor segment of the society. Though his normal consultation fee was Rs 100, he would charge just Rs 10 from those who couldn’t afford to pay it.
Born in 1936 in Nellore, Andhra Pradesh, Dr. Reddy graduated from the Kilpauk Medical College. Later, he moved to Tamil Nadu and started the Mohan Nursing Home in Villivakkam. It is a 30-bed healthcare center where he would treat poor patients which he continued till the end of his life.
Dr. Reddy’s dedication was not only inspiring but also unparalleled. He was unmarried and lived in the hospital so that he would always be ready to treat his patients no matter what time of the day it was.
During the pandemic, Dr. Reddy was at high risk because of his age. But, still it couldn’t stop Dr. Reddy from attending patients during the lockdown.
