Today, we at I For Her, are mourning the death of a brave woman and an inspiring mother who lost her life trying to save her four children.
Fatima, a 27-year-old pregnant woman, did something that requires courage and kindness that many of us don’t have. Eight months pregnant, she found herself trapped with her four kids on the first floor when the house caught fire in Ghaziabad, UP.
Police shared with Hindustan Times that they suspect the fire was triggered by the bakery which was operated on the ground floor of the house.
Fatima’s husband used to run the bakery. But he could have never imagined that it would become the reason for the death of his wife and to-be kid.
Around 12:30 pm, there was an explosion in the bakery, which was triggered by the two LPG cylinders. When Fatima’s husband and his brothers were trying hard to get the fire uncontrol, Fatima and her four kids found themselves helplessly trapped on the first floor of the house.
Even though she was in the advanced stages of pregnancy, she wasted no time to react as she started taking actions to save her kids.
Based on the suggestions of the neighbours, she started throwing her children from the balcony on to the street below.
One of the neighbours, Naseem Saifi, also narrated how bravely Fatima saved her children:
“Fatima was trapped on the first floor of the house, while her husband and his brothers were trying to douse the fire on the ground floor. Her husband said she couldn’t move swiftly as she was in the advanced stages of her pregnancy.”
He further added:
“Locals asked Fatima to throw her children down on to the street. She threw all her children into the waiting arms of rescuers one by one.”
As a Real Hero, she saved her kids before she even thought about herself. After saving her kids, there was hardly any time left for Fathima. Within a few minutes, she fainted just before her house collapsed into rubble.
We don’t know where is she now?
But wherever she is, she would be happy that she saved her four children from turning into ashes.
As per the locals, her two older children, a boy (9) and a girl (7), sustained severe injuries. But, her two other daughters escaped with minor injuries. We feel when they grow up and realize how brave their mother was, they would seek courage from her story.
And, that courage might give them the strength to overcome the life’s greatest sorrow – the sorrow of losing a parent.
Rest in peace, Fatima – The Hero who proved to the world how mothers turn into the strongest and bravest human beings when kids are in danger.
