Sometime back, the whole country came together to celebrate 15-year-old Jyoti Kumari, as she cycled 1,200 kilometers from Gurugram to Bihar to reach her home in Darbhanga during the lockdown.
She cycled for 7 days carrying her injured father on her cycle. Her determination and persistence touched many hearts. Her story also impressed the Cycling Federation of India, who later gave her an opportunity to appear for trials. However, Jyoti, denied the opportunity as she wanted to continue her studies.
Jyoti’s empowering story is now to be made into a film named ‘Atmanirbhar’ (self-reliant), reports The Indian Express.
This movie will not only show her cycling episode but will also capture the “issues” that made her take this journey. But, what is the best part of this movie is that Jyoti Kumari is going to play herself and will star in the lead role.
Wemakefilmz, a company run by four friends, has bought the rights of Jyoti Kumari’s life story. The project is expected to start in August.
The film is expected to be released in Hindi, English, & Maithili and will be subtitled in 20 other languages. It will not be a documentary, rather will contain certain fictionalized elements. For the international audience, the film will be titled ‘A Journey of a Migrant’.
After signing up for the film, Jyoti Kumari shared:
“Bohot achha lag raha hai”
She also went on to add how everything has changed for her and her family and that villagers are showering them with support.
At IFORHER, we are in awe of Jyoti and her inspiring story. Hope her determination and dedication will encourage many to fight against their life circumstances and we wish she will meet new opportunities along her way!
