On the day of Karwa Chauth, when many of us are praying for the long life of our husbands, our husbands mostly show their love and affection in form of either expensive and luxurious gifts item or special love experiences. But, no one can gift her wife a better gift than 51-year-old Rakesh Sharma.
Rakesh Sharma gave the gift of life to his wife by donating his kidney to her. Asha was diagnosed with chronic kidney failure caused due to hypertension and was on regular dialysis.
A few days back, Rakesh decided that it was his duty to make sure his wife lives a healthy and happy life. This is when he decided to donate his kidney to Asha.
Speaking to Mail Today, the husband, Rakesh Sharma, said,
“My wife, Asha, was leading a poor quality life due to the kidney disease. After the transplant, she has recovered and can now walk and do her work. At least, she is not in any pain. For over 30 years, she has prayed for my long and healthy life every Karwa Chauth. I felt it is my duty to give her this gift.”
This lovely Sonipat based couple underwent the surgery at Safdarjung Hospital earlier this week, and have been recovering well.
In our country, it is often assumed that all sacrifices have to be made by women for their families.
This is reflected by the fact that 80%Â of kidney donors are women while 80%Â of kidney recipients are men. It’s not often that we see a man donating his kidney to a woman.
Dr. Kumar who performed the surgery told Mail Today,
“The couple has a beautiful message for society. Rakesh’s wife was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease due to hypertension. She was on hemodialysis. Recently, Rakesh expressed his desire to donate his kidney to his wife and thereafter we were able to perform the renal transplant.”
On this special occasion of Karwa Chauth, Rakesh’s special gift to his wife has made us realize the real meaning of marriage – love, and sacrifice for each other.
We wish both of them a happy life and hope we see more men coming out to help and support their women.
