Heroes are the ordinary people who turn themselves into extraordinary beings in unfortunate and painful circumstances.
And, this is so true for this 17-year-old from Mumbai who is showing the world how courageous a kid can be.
While her peers, the HSC students, are focusing on their books, this 17-year-old is fighting a much painful and horrifying battle along with her exams.Â
The battle of her life, the battle against bone cancer.
Samiksha Sinkar, who lives in Dadar, started preparing for HSC board exams in October last year when there was a shooting pain in her leg. Her mother shared the details of the nightmare.
“We assumed she had a fall and didn’t tell us about it, but a few scans and tests later, it turned out that she had bone cancer. “
She further added:
“We learnt the news on Diwali day, we were devastated. What followed next was hospital visits and rounds of chemotherapy.”
When the doctors prescribed 4 sessions of chemotherapy, surgery and another 4 rounds of chemotherapy, Samiksha knew life had thrown the hardest challenge at her.
But she isn’t giving up so easily!
The last day of her fourth session of chemotherapy was on the day of the first HSC exam. While sharing the story of her courage, Samiksha’s mother added:
“We told Samiksha that she could take the exams next year. So did her teachers. But she did not want to give up.”Â
“Inspite of the pain, she is appearing for the board exams.”
You can’t stop applauding her courage when you read about the commerce student appearing for the first paper on February 21, and then going to the hospital for chemotherapy.
What’s Next?
Even after showing so much courage, this brave soul is still not sure if she can appear for all her papers.
As shared by her mother,
“The next step in her line of treatment is surgery. We are waiting for the doctors to schedule it; it could be anytime now.”
“If it’s before her exams end, Samiksha will have to take the remaining papers in June.”Â
Samiksha’s story gives all of us a great opportunity to learn what courage really means?
When we encounter a bump in our lives, a tragedy or a failure, many of us find ourselves questioning the universe – WHY ME?
In the era of social media, many of us keep comparing our lives to our friends, family and peers to find ourselves:
LESS Successful,
LESS Happy,
And, LESS Famous!
In such an era, Samiksha shows us how life is not about LESS but about MORE –
MORE Courage,
MORE Determination,
And, MORE Love!Â
