As per sources, these cotton masks aren’t a substitute for N95 respirators. — tightly fitted devices that filter out 95 percent of airborne particles. These marks are not even as effective as surgical masks, which are disposable items used by doctors to prevent infection or protect against splashes.
But in the need of the hour, when the country is encountering a shortage in N95 and surgical masks, a handmade cotton mask is indeed the best option for some workers and people. As per a US doctor, these homemade masks could free up the surgical masks for the highest-risk people, who need them the most.
A study concluded that homemade masks should “only be considered as a last resort to prevent droplet transmission from infected individuals, but it would be better than no protection.”
In the given situation, when there is a huge shortage of masks, the kind act of these real heroes to come forward to show the world what humanity looks like is quite heart-touching!
