There are very few stories that give you a ray of hope of better future. And recently, one such story of a supportive daughter-in-law and mother-in-law went viral on Linkedin for all the right reasons. Recently, Ankita Sharma shared a powerful post on how her mother-in-law is her biggest supporter. In the patriarchal society, where many women struggle with the complex relationship of mother-in-law and daughter-in-law, it is quite amazing how this duo is acing it.
By being each others’ biggest supporters to mentoring each other, this duo gives a ray of hope that a woman can be a woman’s biggest supporter too!
In her heart-touching post on Linkedin, Ankita shared:“During my first year of marriage, I remember preparing for a high-stakes presentation. My mother-in-law came up to my room and saw me sitting in front of my laptop. She came closer and noticed my lips moving as I looked through the slides and quietly went over my talking points. “Why don’t you stand up and speak out loud in front of me? Perhaps it’ll help you prepare better.”
While she couldn’t comprehend much of the technical stuff I talked about, she said she loved my confidence and that I would ace this presentation.
When I got my first opportunity to be the emcee for an event, she asked me the night before if I had decided what I would wear. Insisting that I should look my professional best, she spent an hour helping me pick an outfit. Heck, she made me do a dress rehearsal and practise my opening lines.
One day, I casually mentioned to her that I wanted to do an analytics course. Although she couldn’t remember the name of the course, she was after me for over a month, asking me if I had enrolled for it – until I did.
When my husband and I moved to another country, I told her I was dabbling with writing. She would often ask on her calls, “How far have you come along on your article?” She also gave me pro tips like facing northeast to get my creative juices flowing (she’s a big believer in Vaastu).
~ ~ ~ I always tell people to have accountability partners who set high standards and make it difficult for us to slack off on our set goals. My mother-in-law is one of my best accountability buddies; we encourage each other to crush our goals and sometimes become each other’s personal butt-kickers to ensure we’re moving in the right direction.”
In a society, where many women don’t make an attempt to support other women, rather don’t leave a chance to pull each other down, this beautiful post is so refreshing. Many netizens came forward to shower love on this duo:
We hope many more women will seek inspiration from this duo and support each other! Do let us know what you think!
