Be it in books or movies or ads, the image of the perfect woman across the world has been created as a diligent wife, slaving around the house all day, preparing delicious meals for her hardworking husband, taking care of the children, and all that with a smile. While the rudiments of sexist and misogynist image of a perfect woman still exist, it was reflected a lot in the ads of the earlier era.
Inspired by those ads, photographer and video editor from Beirut, Lebanon, Eli Rezkallah created a series called “In A Parallel Universe”. In this series, she decided to switch gender roles portrayed in these vintage ads to exhibit some shallow stereotypes. This artist’s unconventional way of revealing the sexist problems in the vintage ads left many netizens impressed! As some of these sexist stereotypes still exist in some form or other, no wonder, many across the world could relate to her work. Her thought-provoking images went viral across various social media platforms.
