A few days back, actor Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Naga Chaitanya announced their separation on social media. While the couple didn’t blame anyone for their separation, it is sad how Samantha has been targeted by the false rumours and being blamed for the divorce.

Recently, Samantha took to social media to thank people for lending their support and defending her against rumours that have been spreading ever since she and Naga Chaitanya announced their separation.
In her statement, she mentioned the ‘relentless attacks on her’. She also mentioned how she won’t break down by these constant attacks. In her note she mentioned:“Your emotional investment into a personal crisis has overwhelmed me. Thank you all for showing deep empathy, concern and for defending me against false rumours and stories that are being spread. They say I had affairs, never wanted children, that I am an opportunist and now that I have had abortions”
She added, “A divorce in itself is an extremely painful process. Let alone allowing me the time to heal. This attack on me personally, has been relentless. But I promise you this, I will never allow this or anything else they say, break me”.

In a separate post, Samantha also slammed society for having different standards for men and women in the society. In her note, she shared a powerful quote: “If matters are constantly morally questionable when done by women, but not even morally questioned when done by men – then we, as a society, fundamentally have no morals. – Farida D.”
It is quite easy for our patriarchal society to blame women when the marriage falls apart. From labelling them as characterless or inflexible or stubborn, our society always blames women for divorce. We wonder why society hates women so much.
At IFORHER, we publish stories of so many divorced women, who have been blamed for their divorce; who have been blamed for not adjusting in the toxic marriage for kids; who have been blamed for bringing shame to the family’s name. We wonder when will our society shed its patriarchal mindset and stop blaming women for broken marriages!
