Recently, when Alia Bhatt announced her pregnancy with Ranbir Kapoor, hardly one could have imagined the level of negativity that surfaced over the internet. While the couple’s friends, family, and fans wished them luck on their new journey as parents, there were many hate comments that reflected how our society hates women.

While Alia was trolled and shamed for her time of pregnancy, Deepika and Katrina were shamed for not being pregnant.

Trolled for not being pregnant-Deepika-Katrina-Alia

Scroll through thousands of comments and you’ll notice how people called pregnancy the reason for the marriage itself. They went ahead to blame Alia for trapping Ranbir Kapoor with her pregnancy. Even though Alia Bhatt is a successful actress who has created a name for herself, our regressive society believes that she needed to trap Ranbir! Seriously? In the times, when pre-marital sex is hardly a taboo anymore, why do people find it hard to accept that two consenting adults can have a child whenever they want to. Not just that, many labeled their pregnancy news as a promotional ploy for their upcoming movie Brahmāstra, due to release on September 9.

How people showered hate over Alia for her pregnancy left us quite heartbroken. But what disgusted us even more, was how people thought it was okay to shame Deepika and Katrina, Ranbir’s exes, for not having a baby.

If you scroll through Twitter, Reddit, or other social media, you would see how some left no stone unturned in shaming them for being too ambitious or money minded. Some also blamed Katrina and her age! While sharing their disgust on people trolling Deepika, Katrina, or Alia, here’s what people said on Reddit:

“Along with Ranbir Alia, Deepika and Katrina are also trending on Twitter today. Most of jokes on DP and Kat are about them not having kids, Katrina is actually being termed as infertile by a few. Today on this sub only some members were also discussing how Katrina is too old to have a child and will go for a surrogacy. Funnily enough these are the same people who are offended by the regressive views that are unfairly being thrown at Ranbir Alia.” – emmmelinee

“Katrina and Deepika have to face the ‘they haven’t had kids yet’ stuff” –Iamrandom17 “They (Katrina & Deepika) are being trolled for their thirst for money, and for not starting a family. Many have already assumed that they’d take the surrogacy route…so pathetic” – OldCryptographer301 “If you search “alia” on twitter 50% of the posts are whatsapp aunty level garbage shaming katrina and deepika for not being pregnant yet.” – woahtheregonnagetgot

Trolled for not being pregnant

“Alia is being trolled for getting pregnant before her wedding and Deepika is being trolled for what is technically planning her family. Priyanka is being trolled for choosing surrogacy after what must have been a very difficult time in her life. This is insane, let women decide when they want to have kids. Pregnancy and labor is very hard and nobody other than the mother should have absolute authority on deciding the right time.” – Aam_panna

“That’s not it. Ranveer left a comment on alia’s post, and he’s getting badly trolled for having a low sperm count n not being able to impregnate Deepika.” – OldCryptographer301 “Even today there are comments that he is not in love with her & only married her bcoz of the baby And Alia is such a woman who will tie down man by getting pregnant..” – just_me_08 “It’s funny that India has such a large population, yet Indians are always surprised and scandalised by the fact that people have sex.” – drunk-at-noon

“I like that knowing the consequences they proudly announce their pregnancy 🤰🏻 without giving an actual fork 😅. That’s how it should be, almost every couple has sex before marriage, they ended up getting pregnant so it’s evident.I am glad they decided to keep the baby and did not succumb the pressure of announcing. Can we ever be progressive?” – Successful-Ad7296 “Those comment section in an insight to the regressive mindset in our country.” – Ok_Staff_3531

“Its not about their religion or being orthodox anymore. Most people themselves engage in premartial sex and relationships yet also jump aboard to shame others on doing the same. What a world we live in where making a mockery out of someone elses lives apparently brings some people solace and entertainment.” – sbu3333

It is quite disgusting how our society feels it is its birthright to control women and their life choices. One thing that scares our society the most is the woman, who chose to lead a life on her own terms. We wonder if after being so successful this is what Alia, Deepika, Priyanka, and Katrina had to face, then what about others! What about women like you and me?
