Ram Charan’s Wife On Being Judged By Society For Not Having Kids; Sadhguru Applauds Her

We live in a world that has a human population of almost 8 Billion. In the midst of issues like poverty, unemployment, diseases, and climate change, our society still believes to shame and judge men and women, who choose not to have kids. Sadly, more than men, it’s women who have to bear the brunt of choosing not to embark on the journey of motherhood. Because, as per our society, doesn’t matter who you are, or what your dreams are, but if you are a woman, your life purpose is to raise kids.

Recently, entrepreneur and philanthropist Upasana Kamineni Konidela, who has been married to famous actor Ram Charan initiated an important discussion in this regard. Ram Charan and Upasana have been married for 10 years now. And, even though they have been professionally and personally successful, society still judges and shames them for not being parents.

Recently, at an event, Upasana spoke about her decision not to have children. And, how she has to face constant judgements and societal pressure for the same. After hearing her thoughts, spiritual leader Sadhguru couldn’t stop but praise her for her choice.

Upasana’s Personal Question About Kids

During the 17th ATA Convention and Youth Conference, Upasana interacted with Sadhguru and asked him some insightful questions. During the interaction, Upasana asked him one specific personal question that touched many hearts. Referring to Ram Charan’s RRR, she said, “I have been very happily married for 10 years now. I love my life, I love my family but why do people find it their duty to question my RRR.”

Upasana went on to explain what she meant by RRR as she said, “RRR is my relationship, my ability to reproduce, and my role in my life. There are so many women like me who would want an answer to this.”

While answering the question, Sadhguru said he would like to leave the relationship out of the discussion. But, he would definitely like to speak about the second R i.e. Reproduction.

Sadhguru’s Thoughts On Reproduction

While answering the question he made some logical references and interpretations, he said he would give Upasana an award for not reproducing. He said,
“If you stay this way, not reproducing, I am going to give you an award. I have already announced an award for all those young women, who are healthy and can reproduce but choose not to. This is the greatest service you can do right now.”

Talking about how humans don’t need to reproduce as our overpopulation is causing so many environmental issues, he said, “This is not an endangered species. We are just too many. We are heading towards 10 billion in the next 30-35 years. Man is worried about carbon footprint but if the human footprint is reduced, there is no need to worry about global warming too. So, it’s good to see women who chose to not reproduce.”

After hearing what Sadhguru has to say, Upasana replied, “I would make you speak with my mother and mother-in-law very soon.”

Ram Charan and Upasana, who married in 2012, have chosen not to have kids for now. But, sadly, the couple has been trolled for the same. It is sad how even in the 21st century, people have to justify their life choices to society. Wish more people will choose their own path rather than the path dictated by society. What do you think?
