In our society, women are raised to be sincere and meek daughters-in-law. But here is a 21st-century woman who shared her resignation letter from the position of ideal daughter-in-law as she is joining her new profile – ‘Imperfect’ and ‘Badatmeez’ daughter-in-law!
Dear Society,
I, Not So Good Enough Bahu, hereby officially tender my resignation from the position of an ideal, perfect, and sanskaari daughter-in-law with effect from today. Please consider yesterday as my last day at work. Â
Working as an ideal and sanskaari daughter-in-law under the guidance of social norms has definitely enriched my experience. It opened me to different opportunities and made me brave enough to take up a more challenging task i.e. living life on my own terms.
While working in this position, I learned many things that I want to thank you for.
Without your judgments, taunts, and unfair treatment, I would have never realized how brave and courageous I am. It was your ill-treatment and insults that made me acknowledge my true potential and move out of this bizarre position.
If it wasn’t your constant nagging about how I was performing badly as an ideal daughter-in-law, I would never have the urge to look out for new opportunities.Â
It was your unfair expectations that pushed me to believe in myself and find a more appropriate position for myself. I would like to thank you for giving me opportunities to realize who I was and what I want in my life.
Your expectation of me to be blind, dumb, and deaf made me learn a lot of things about me. The experience with you made me realize my extraordinary tolerance power.
It was your (lack of) support that helped me in taking a leap of faith and explore the other opportunities that may bring happiness and purpose to my life.
As I am joining the position of ‘Imperfect’ and ‘Badatmeez’ daughter-in-law, I would like to thank you for giving me the perfect experience and training. This experience helped me in gathering the courage to shatter social norms and stand for myself.
As I embark on a new journey of happiness, I want to wish you luck for your future endeavors.
Thanks,
Not So Good Enough Bahu!
