Even though we are living in the 21st century, it is quite disappointing how our society still feels that women are born to serve family, kids and husbands. So, while men get respected for working on their dreams, women are shamed for being career-oriented. They are labelled as selfish for focusing on their dreams rather than their family! Patriarchy is so deeply rooted in our mindset that working women are still demeaned in our homes. They still struggle to be treated at par with their partners.
Talking on similar lines, Vidya Balan and Shefali Shah’s take on how people don’t take women’s work seriously feels very relatable.
In an interview with The Quint, the actors opened up about how they’ve witnessed the unequal treatment in their own lives. Vidya Balan added as an example, that if both she and her husband are on a call, people find it appropriate to interrupt her and not bother him at all. Isn’t this what many of us have also come across in our daily lives?
“They feel that the man is working and for the woman, it doesn’t matter what we do.” – Vidya Balan
Even Shefali Shah shared how this mentality exists in a lot of people, including our family members and the people who work for us. She also shared how it is also normalized among children – when they are told to reach out to their mothers instead of their fathers, for everything.
Many women came forward to share how they agree with the actors:
It is sad how women are naturally expected to run the lives of everyone around them by forgetting their own. It is sad how women are the ones, who are expected to bear the burden of domestic chores all alone. It is high time that we start seeing women at par with men.
