We live in a patriarchal society and it isn’t any news that our society treats sons as assets whereas girls are treated as liabilities. Many families celebrate the birth of sons just so that they can transfer their ‘legacy’ to their ‘boys’ who’ll carry their family name, reputation, and business forward.
No wonder, our markets are dominated by shop boards with fathers and sons’ names. Hence, when people came across a signboard with the name of a father and her daughters, netizens couldn’t help but applaud this welcome change.
The image shared by Aman Kashyap, who is a medical professional, captured the signboard of a local chemist’s store in Ludhiana, Punjab. In no time, this image went viral on social media.
Impressed by the uniqueness associated with the store’s name using daughters instead of sons, he instantly shared this picture:
Gupta nd daughters …. ???????????????? Unlike all the shops opened in the name of Sons, a medicine shop in association with “Gupta & Daughters” spotted in Ludhiana.
Be the change you want to see in this world ♥️ pic.twitter.com/rRE2JiYHpK

Like us, many netizens came forward to applaud Gupta Ji’s gesture of giving the same importance to his daughters as the society does to their sons.
A Wonderful Initiative for making a new way of system.

Great progress, indeed.
If any state needs it, Punjab is definitely one of them. Haryana and Delhi too can learn – referring to gender ratio at birth.— Anil K Sood (@AnilKSood5) May 23, 2020
Great first step Guptaji. More power to you girls….. you deserve it. God Bless

While many do use their daughter’s name in naming their establishment, this has to be a first.
Way to go, Guptaji. More power to you.— Amitabh Kedia (@KediaAmitabh) May 23, 2020
Now that’s called real feminism ????????????????????????

Breaking the norm,
To a gesture warm,
Gupta & Daughters instead
Of routine Gupta & Sons tread,
The new path oblivious to a storm. @bibekdebroy— Vinod Sharma Bansi (@Vinod_Bansi) May 22, 2020
@DrAmankashyap it’s so nice of you highlighting the growing importance of daughters. One of my cousin in kolkata has three daughters and she is running her business as Chathrath& Daughters since last thirty years.

I was also telling my father to do this before, he denied. But still happy to see this and will show this to my father too ????????

At IFORHER, we are so happy that finally someone has come forward to show the society how daughters need to be treated.
Even though this might look like a small thing, it is a big step for the greater development of future generations. Imagine if more people start thinking like Gupta Ji, we’ll actually be able to bridge the persisting gender gap in our society.
Soon we will move on from Sharmaji ka ladka to Guptaji ki ladki!
