Many people let go of their dreams because they believe they are too old to start something new. It could be about starting a new career or learning a new hobby. But 94-year-old Harbhajan Kaur has proven everyone wrong.
Harbhajan Kaur is living proof that you can follow your dreams at any age. This 94-year-old businesswoman for Chandigarh has launched her new own brand – ‘Harbhajan’s’ and sells delicious home-made ‘besan ki barfi’ for a living.
While talking to TOI, her daughter, who encouraged her mother to turn her passion into the business, shared:
“She expressed one day that she has not earned a single penny from her own and her words struck to my heart a lot. She is so talented and we never went to eat outside, not even a bar of chocolate as she cooks really well. Our childhood memories are related to ‘besan ki barfi’ and that’s why I encouraged her to make them and sell them as well.”
Speaking about the first time that Harbhajan sold besan barfi, her daughter, Raveena shared:
“She first set shop at a local organic market on her own, She sat there, interacted with the customers, and came home with Rs 2,000 which was her first ‘own’ earnings.”
And, this was an achievement for this shy homemaker, who rarely stepped out of her home. Further sharing how proud Harbhajan was when she came home with that Rs 2,000, Raveena mentioned:
“That earning not only brought her happiness but also the confidence to take this initiative forward and make something of it.”
The 94-year-old boss-lady has inspired many, including business tycoon Anand Mahindra who shared her story on Twitter:
When you hear the word ‘start-up’ it brings to mind images of millennials in Silicon Valley or Bengaluru trying to build billion dollar ‘unicorns.’ From now on let’s also include a 94 yr old woman who doesn’t think it’s too late to do a start-up. She’s my entrepreneur of the year https://t.co/N75BxK18z4
