Lt. Garima Yadav’s Never Give-Up Attitude
Garima Yadav was very sharp as a student. After completing her schooling from Army Public School (Shimla), she went on to study Bachelors in economics from one of the finest colleges in India – St. Stephens.
Since the very beginning, she wanted to serve the nation. And, in order to fulfill her dream, she started preparing for civil service examinations along with a part-time job as an emcee for events. Though Garima wanted to join the IAS, unfortunately, she failed at clearing the exam. But she never gave up on her dreams.
However, it was during an event where Garima was working that she got selected for the auditions of a pageant called India’s Miss Charming Face. She won the pageant in 2017 and was selected to appear for an international contest which was to be held in Italy.
But Garima Yadav had other plans!
She joined the Officer’s Training Academy, Chennai, instead. She cracked the Combined Defence Services (CDS) exam in her first attempt and made it to OTA! In her interview with SSBCrack, she mentioned about her true calling,
“I was preparing for civil services but I guess army was my true calling. I got recommended in my first attempt”
She added on how she refused to give up,
“I had a wonderful experience at the OTA. At first, it was difficult for me to cope up with the tough training. The weather was also unfavourable. I did not have very good physical standards but somehow I managed for the first few months. I didn’t give up and improved drastically.”
She further added,
“People have a wrong conception that you have to be good at all sports, physically strong to get selected in the SSB. That’s not true. You just should be willing to accept your weaknesses and work on them, should always endeavour to get better and better every day.”
