A 36-year-old mother of 3, Nusrat Parveen has beautifully turned the pain and trauma of her failed marriage into motivation to succeed in life.
A survivor of domestic abuse, Nusrat has recently bagged the prestigious title of Mrs. India International-2018, held in Malaysia.
She told Kashmir Patriot,
“My pain was so deep and cruel. I faced that all alone, hence, managed to come out of the ordeal. I decided to leave all my agonies behind to do something for myself”
She added further:
“I had a love marriage with a man from Maharashtra, who is an architect. The more successful architect he became in life, the more distanced he got from me and our children. But as a typical and obeying housewife, I still managed my relationship with him. Because to me whatever I had was my destiny and I was supposed to live with it. This is what we believe and how we live in our society”
A few months earlier, she came to know about her husband’s second marriage, which left her shocked and devastated. Feeling cheated, she decided to leave her husband.
While speaking with Kashmir Age, Nusrat shared that after her marriage broke up, she was in obvious pain and stress but her daughter gave her emotional support. She recalls:
“My daughter gave me emotional support. She used to tell me move on mummy”
After making to the top ten finalists at the pageant, Nusrat said,
“I told them (judges), I am a housewife, mother of three children, who is confined to four walls for her house, looking after her children and household chores. Today I am at a stage for the first time”.
She also requested the judges to speak in Hindi because she is not confident of speaking in English.
Unfortunately, Nusrat has had education till 10th standard only and she was not able to get a job. Fortunately, she saw an advertisement on ‘Instagram’ regarding Mrs. India International-2018 to be held in Malaysia.
She gave a glimpse of her intelligence, internal beauty and strength to the judges by quoting a few lines from a poetry of Alama Iqbal at the end of a question-answer session of the contest,
“Girte hain sheh-sawaar hi maidaan-e-jang mein .Woh tifl kya gire ga jo ghutnon ke bal chale”
(Translation: The brave those who ride high only fall in the battlefield, what will those pygmies fall who crawl on their knees.)
Nusrat also shared a beautiful message for all the new age housewives:
“They should get time for themselves, live for themselves. I was also a housewife with low confidence but an incident changed my life, gave me courage. I had almost accepted failure in my life, but then i decided to move on. I decided to make my name and to do something in life”
Don’t be misled by the delicate appearance of this fashion model. Because behind that delicate model, lies an Iron Lady, who has overcome multiple obstacles of the society to achieve her dreams.
We at “I For Her” are celebrating Nusrat’s success and wish she achieves much more in her life!
