It is quite inspiring how some souls fight their tough circumstances with extraordinary courage. And famous celebrity Nimrat Kaur is one such person.
Nimrat Kaur has touched our hearts multiple times whenever she appeared onscreen. She is not only a good actor but also a strong woman in her real life. Though we may have seen her depicting strong women onscreen multiple times, we hardly know what she went through to turn her dreams into reality.
When She Lost Her Father At A Young Age
Though many of us know that Nimrat comes from an army family, we hardly know about the loss that she and her family had to suffer. She was very young when her father was kidnapped by a terrorist group – Hizbul Mujahideen.
Major Bhupinder Singh, Nimrat’s father, was an engineer who was posted on the border roads of the army’s patrol area in a place called Verinag in Kashmir. This horrific incident took place in the winter of 1994. The terrorists kidnapped her father and demanded the release of some terrorists in return. When the government refused to agree to the demands of the terrorists, her father was murdered.

After this heart-wrenching incident, Nimrat’s life was turned upside down.
With her mother and sister, Nimrat moved to Delhi permanently. With no choice left, her family left behind the army lifestyle that she had been brought up in. For the first few months, Nimrat stayed with her Nani. Later her mother bought a place with her deceased husband’s pension money and savings.
But, it is inspiring how she grew out of her unfortunate circumstance as a strong woman. It was this strength that helped her cope with the coming challenges in the path of turning her dream into reality.
In a recent interview, she shared how much difficulty she faced as an outsider to make her place in Bollywood. She spoke about having ‘multiple breakdowns’ when she first came to Mumbai. She shared how she would go to cyber cafes to look up the names of production houses and then go to their offices to give them her photographs.
She also shared how there were days that she would feel lost and would call her mother and ‘cry for hours’.
Talking to sources, Nimrat said,
“There were multiple breakdowns. I had saved up a bit of money from a few odd jobs I did back in Delhi. So it saw me through the first six-seven months. What happened was that I got some photographs but you just don’t know where to go, what to do. Where do you even start?”
“I figured that inko jaake photographs de dete hai aur dekhte hai ki kya hota hai (let me give my photographs to them and see what happens). I gave my pictures to hundreds of agencies and banners; I would go physically. I marked out areas, travelled by trains or buses and autos. I couldn’t afford cabs at that time. Everything was so expensive. Mobile phones, calls were so costly. So I used to go to a PCO and call mom, cry for hours and be so sad about things. It was pretty daunting and scary,”
From that day, Nimrat has made huge strides. How she fought her circumstances to turn her dreams into reality is a great reminder of how courage and patience do overcome the toughest obstacle in life. At IFORHER, we are in awe of Nimrat Kaur and her courageous soul. Hope her inspiring story will give courage to many more to fight for their dreams and not succumb to the pressure of life’s unfortunate incidents.
