After B.R. Chopra’s Mahabharat made a comeback on Doordarshan, Roopa Ganguly, the actress who played Draupadi, has made a shocking revelation. Her revelations have left many netizens shocked and disgusted.
With the re-run of Mahabharat, recently the most powerful and heart-wrenching scene – the Draupadi vastra-haran, was aired. While many were applauding Roopa Ganguly for her acting prowess, the actress shared on social media what this particular episode reminded her of.
As per her Twitter account, the episode reminded Roopa Ganguly of a traumatic real-life incident where she was brutally attacked by a mob in West Bengal. The brutal incident took place in 2016 when she was heading back to Kolkata from a village near Kakdwip.
Roopa talked about how the episode triggered memories of the horrifying incident during which she was dragged out of the car and beaten up by unknown assailants and cops, which led to severe head injuries. Following that, the actress suffered from two brain hemorrhages.
Roopa took to Twitter to express her ordeal. Her tweet read,
“Mujhe kuch dino se yaad aa raha hai May 22, 2016 Diamond Harbour ki ghatna. 17-18 log, police ko saath lekar, mujhe gaadi se utaar kar, raaste pe patak patak kar maar rahe the. Gaadi tod-fod kiye, do brain haemorrhage jhelne pade. Bas, main mar nahi gayi. Rally driver hoon, nikal aa gayi (sic).”

In one of her previous interviews, the 53-year-old had also mentioned how it was a well-planned attack.
“They attacked us with bricks, flung us to the ground, tore our clothes and beat us. It was a well-planned attack. We are still traumatized.”
At IFORHER, we are not only the fans of Roopa’s acting prowess but also of her courage and determination. It’s heartbreaking how Roopa was molested and harassed but her courage to fight back shows she is a Draupadi of modern times.
