Sudha Murthy has inspired millions of people across the globe with her inspiring acts of kindness and powerful words. In such a money-obsessed world, how she exhibits modesty shows why she is a perfect role model.
In these stressful times, we believe it is much more important than ever to have role models who promote humanity and modesty. And, Sudha Murthy is one such perfect role model.
Even though she is one of the richest persons in India, she never leaves a chance to serve humanity. And one such incident was when she chopped vegetables and washed dishes at a temple in Bangalore.
As per an old interview with Bangalore Mirror, the lady with an estimated wealth of 2400 crore shared how three days each year she wakes up at 4 am and heads to the Raghavendra Swamy temple. This temple is a block away from her Z-security-guarded house in Jayanagar.
Assisted by a staff member, she enters the kitchen which is behind the main building of the temple. And, the author of more than 150 books, for the next four hours, cleans the kitchen and the adjoining rooms. She also washes dirty utensils, dusts shelves, chops vegetables, manages inventory, sweeps the floor, and even empties the trash can.
She further added the only help that she seeks from her assistant is to carry the large sacks of vegetables and rice to the storeroom.
“Because of my age, I am unable to carry the heavy bags,”
But why does she do it will touch your heart and give you a new way to lead life. In the times when most of us prefer donating money to offer help, here’s why Sudha Murthy believes in physical seva.
“Giving money is easy, because it is a simple transaction. But doing physical seva is not,”

Influenced by the Sikh philosophy of “kar seva“, she can often be seen “taking care” of devotees’ footwear at a Gurudwara in Delhi too. Focusing on why she does it, she further adds,
“In the eyes of God we all are equal, but not in the eyes of the society,”
If this isn’t modesty, then what is. It is heart-touching how she indulges in these humanitarian acts to keep her ego in check. In times when there is so much negativity around us, inspiring acts like such do restore our faith in humanity.
